On Tuesday, October 1st at 1600, I discovered my 2018 Yamaha XMAX was missing from my parking space at home. I immediately called the police, my insurance company, my bank and most of the motorcycle shops in my area to be on the lookout. Since my scooter is my only motorized transportation, I spent yesterday looking at used scooters in my area. I ended up looking at a 2006 Honda Silverwing with 7000 miles and a 2016 Piaggio BV 350 with 17500 miles. I ended up purchasing the BV 350 because I wanted a cutting edge scooter. I also spent the last couple of days looking for receipts for my XMAX and filling out claim forms. I have to admit the Denver Police Department was at my home within 2 hours of my call. I didn't purchase the Silverwing because I owned two of them before and although the silverwing is a good scooter the design is old and Honda no longer imports Silverwings into the US.

My observations on the BV 350 are that it's more powerful than the XMAX, but the XMAX is a better scooter. I got used to not having keys, the smooth engine, fuel economy, and great handling of the XMAX. The BV 350 is a good scooter, the engine runs rough, the transmission provides some engine braking, and the clutch grabs quickly. The BV 350 also is a modern scooter that is imported into the US. The Service Intervals are 6200 miles. The XMAX is 4000 miles in the US and 6000 miles in Europe. I hope that the dealer support is better on the BV 350, as I've had trouble with my local dealers having the parts in stock to perform regular maintenance. Anyway, my XMAX got better gas mileage and I miss it dearly.

The theft has allowed me to own two wonderful Mid sized scooters.

This is a bad news to good news story Al.  My sympathies for what you have experienced.  There are bad people everywhere.  This is the main problem with our scooters .... they are easily stolen.  Hope they find the thief and that your insurance company comes through quickly for you.  The good news is that you found your next ride .... and seem to like it.  And life continues .....

Condolences for the Yamaha.
That 330cc engine in the BV should be as smooth as silk! If it's running rough something's out of whack. In the last big service I did on my X10 I slipped in some Dr. Pully sliders. Helped quite a bit too.

Received a call from the Police Department. They have recovered the scooter. I have enclosed pictures. Just as I thought, they were not able to take much. I think it may be totalled. They took a lot of the plastics off, but it doesn't seem to have any frame damage. I was initially happy, but after looking at the pictures more closely, I am sad. I will get it released on Monday.

Guess they needed a headlight and windshield.  Hope they catch the bad guys too.

I have been MIA from this forum for awhile but you post touched a nerve. My Kymco Downtown 300i was stolen from my country setting in 2016, wrecked and abandoned. Perpetrator (one of two) caught and charged. He is still in jail. The original, a 2013 had 22000 miles, ran well and was well cared for, was deserving of a better end. It was replaced by an identical 2013 new, old stock DT300i which has been as good a ride with better improvements over time. So we both came out well.

I started warming up to the BV350, cant ride this scooter below 25 F. The bike won't start or will kill the batteries. This is something I didn't worry about on my Burgman, Silverwing, and Majesty. Not sure why. I replaced two batteries already. The first a Yuasa, the second and current battery a Gel battery from Walmart. The bike runs fine once it gets started after sitting overnight. I can't afford a new scooter now. Still love the XMAX. The bike runs well at above 32 F. Starts easily and everything. I also started riding an ebike as a commuter during warmer months. Love it.
