I feel badly for not being able to attend this year but such is life.

We hope to be able to be back for next year.  (Probably as we discussed last year will be Arkansas)

I do have a suggestion since you all will be a smaller group.  Ride to Lake Placid.  I wanted to do that but with a larger group didn’t think it was manageable.   It’s a long day but the roads look amazing!

Maggie, don’t feel bad.  Pete’s health comes first.  I like your idea about Lake Placid. You and Pete will be missed.  Along with the others that won’t be able to make it.  Life just sometimes gets in the way and we can ‘t control that.

Looking forward to seeing you guys later in the fall.

First, I received the "motorcycle map" and local tourist guide yesterday for the Cooperstown area.  The map was a bit of a disappointment as it focused mostly on the roads to the south and east of Cooperstown and it was really more of an advertising flyer for restaurants and shopping spots.  Still useful but not what I had hoped for.

My sense is the "good" riding roads are more to the north/northeast in the hills.  However, the Tourist Guide is well put together and really does a good job detailing what's available in and around Cooperstown.  Since I was able to order three of these Guides ... I have a couple for y'all to share back at the Bayside Inn.

The participant tally hasn't changed but I thought I'd repost it here for ease of copy/pasting if it does need changing.  So we have:

Cathy & Bob - IL (staying at the Bayside Inn & Marina = 607-547-2371)
John - TN - (same as above)
Bruce - NY - (same as above)
Karin & Len - Waterloo, ON Canada (staying at the Cooperstown Deer Run Campground - Site #40 = 607-376-7167)
___________
6 - confirmed

Tim - PA - maybe an abbreviated visit Tue to Thurs
Steve - Toronto Canada - longshot waiting for parts to complete repairs to his scoot
________
2 - maybe

Feel free to change/add your information by copying the above text, re-posting a reply to this thread and adding your information.

We're starting to get excited about this get together.  I know we'll figure the best routes out based on all the hard work Maggie et al already put into planning this event and with a smaller riding pack, we will have Ninja like flexibility to ride where, when and how we choose.

Can't wait.

Bruce is staying 1/4 up the road at the Hickory Grove Motor Inn Wednesday until Sunday morning. Even though this is relatively close to home, I'm unfamiliar with the riding in that area, but the run up to the north and across to Vermont to visit Hemmings is a nice ride.

Well folks, scoot is still in the shop and won't be ready this week, so sadly the dreams have died and I'm officially out.

Hope you all have a great time and sure going to miss ya, but next year count me in again.

thanks

That's a real pity Steve.  They could have loaned you a bike .... especially since you are hurting because of the shop's error. Not much good will there it seems.

Sorry to hear this Steve. You've lost the bulk of the riding season due to their mistake.  I sure hope they make it up to you some how.

That is not good.

Demand a LOANER! They broke your bike and should step-up and do the right thing!!!

Steve mentioned the following in the BurgmanUSA forum when he told us about the incident with his Burgman: "As to a loaner. The bike is so customized there's nothing they could give me. The seat is modded for my height, all the racks for the cases, etc. Even lights mounted on the windshield. So nope, no loaner would do. "

So it isn't a matter of the dealer having to "step-up."  Steve doesn't seem to want one.

FYI,  Bob and I will be leaving on Saturday we need to be back at work on Monday.  Also, John is from NC.  I believe Bob and I are the furthest away.  Do we get a prize?

Cathy & Bob - IL (staying Tue and LV Sat at the Bayside Inn & Marina = 607-547-2371)
John - NC - (same as above ... not sure when leaving)
Bruce - NY - (staying Wed to Sun at Hickory Grove Motor Inn = 877-547-9874)
Tim - PA - (staying Tue & Wed (LV Thu) at Hickory Grove Motor Inn = 877-547-9874)

Cathy, for sure you guyz would earn bragging rights for being from the furthest distance away.  Other than that ... ?

Karin and I were thinking it would be nice to have everyone over to our campsite (assuming the park allows this) for a get together one evening.  After reviewing everyone's plans, it appears Wednesday night would be the best night since John heads back home on Thursday.

We'll have our complete campsite set up with propane cooking grill etc. so we thought maybe an after ride dinner followed by a campfire.  Thoughts?

I checked the policies at the campground. All guests need to check in at the office and there is a $5.00 fee for each person.  Don’t know if this is for an all day visit using there facilities etc.  You can find out when you get there.  Sounds like a good idea weather permitting. Bayside is about 2 miles south of the Campground and Hickory Grove is 3 miles south of the Campground.

Thanks for checking it out Cathy.  Usually the guest fee is for using things like swimming pools, showers etc.  I'll negotiate a freebie evening for us.  Better done when its face-to-face in my experience.

Thanks for the good vibes Joan & Maggie.  I don't have a Go Pro so still pics will have to do.  Also, we don't use a GPS when we ride so hopefully someone downloaded the .gpx files to reference. I'll be printing off the routes and bringing them with me.

Our truck camper and cargo trailer all checked out, air pressures, fluids topped up etc.  Cargo trailer loaded with scooters, too much camp gear, enough tools to start a service facility, 8 chairs etc.  Today is get propane day, finish coupling trailer up, check lights & electric brakes, pack and load personal items into camper etc.

Border laws won't allow us to bring much more than condiments and packaged goods over the border so we'll stop at a grocery store on the way and pick up our food including eats for all for our Wednesday night campground get-together.  We're thinking about maybe Caesar Salad, grilling some hamburgers, sausages or hot dogs and some dessert.  If we can find some farm fresh corn on the way we'll grab some of that too.  Water, soft drinks (soda & Ice Tea), fresh brewed coffee and Canadian beer will be provided on site.

Tomorrow (Monday) is a work day for us.  "Thunderbirds are GO" to leave first thing Tuesday morning with an ETA of mid afternoon Tuesday depending on traffic & border crossing time.

Maggie, did you have a planned route in mind to Lake Placid?  If so, can you share? Thx.

See eveybody soon!   We'll miss the rest of youz guyz.

Pete and I were going to do this route after the rally:

https://goo.gl/maps/hnVaUWZ9XahJvCsD8

After leaving Lake Placid if you want to get back faster you can utilize the Interstate or just stay on Rte 9.

With a smaller group that likes to ride, this will be a very doable day ride!

Great ride today. Some of the BPW is boring in VA but Skyline Drive makes up for it. 107 miles if twists and turns.  Saw my first black bear in the wild and two deer.
