« on: July 20, 2019, 02:09:19 AM »

Well folks I decided to update my ride.  My 2009 SilverWing has almost 83,500 miles on it.  I bought it in 2010 with 3700 miles on it.  This has been my only bike I have ever ridden.  Last September Bob and I test rode an Africa Twin DCT  and a 2018 Goldwing Tour DCT for just a short jaunt.  I liked the GW better.

Last Saturday I went for a longer ride almost 200 miles and 4 1/2 hours later.  I loved it. Very comfortable and agile.  The extra 300 pounds did not bother me.  The DCT was awesome.  ABS was great to have.  Since Bob and I go on long distance trips quite often I wanted a comfortable ride.  The 2018 GW Tour DCT gives me that.  I should be able to pick up my new bike next week.  They found a new one Zero miles out of the box.

We traded Bobís 2004 BMW R1150R in.  I was going to keep my SW but decided to give it to my brother up in
WI so he and my sister-in-law could enjoy it on the less crowded roads up there.  He is just north of the IL border.  I can visit my Swing anytime.  They got their MC licenses 15 years ago but never could get a bike.  Life got in the way.

So that is my big news.  I am very excited to get to riding this new bike and go.  Hope to see some of you in NY this September.   Here is a picture of me last September when I went for a test ride.  I am getting the Pearl White as seen in the photo. :D

Nooooo,  he still has his 2014 BMW R1200GS.

He thought I was going to ride my SW up to my brothers. He would ride my GW and then I could go on the back for the ride home.  I said your dreaming.  Snap out of it!  My brother can come down to Chicago and pick up the SW.  Maybe I would follow him back home on the GW just to ride.  Men!!!!   LOL.

I miss my wing almost daily. I did notice and could no longer cope with the extra 300 pounds, hence the Spyder. Good on you, I will be vicariously enjoying your new bike.

Congratulations Cathy !!!  Very happy for you.  I can tell from your smile in the picture of the test ride how happy you must be.   Bet the sales guy was waiting for your return too ..... he knew you would be back !  (Hope you don't play poker ...)

I think my smile in reading your account of your purchase was almost as wide as yours in happiness for you.  Better let Bob go for a ride on it .... we men like new things too !!  LOL  That pearly white looks great.

Be safe and enjoy the ride.

Awesome!  Youíre gonna love that Gold Wing.  I think youíll find it to be a sportbike on steroids.  Thatís how I felt about my Ď05 GL1800.  I have regretting selling it when we moved back to Alaska.  I might not have quit riding if Iíd brought it up here.

Honda has certainly re-designed the Gold Wing, and it looks great in itís new clothes in that white.  Donít know how you feel about ďaccessorizingĒ motorcycles with pinstriping, but a dark purple pinstriping would look fantastic. And you already know, that thing is so smoooooth youíll be 50 miles down the road before you realize it.  Have fun, and go bend some tight curves.  The Wing is very good at doing that.

We were looking at them again today at the dealership, and there's a pretty good chance one will be in the garage before the end of the season. Teresa wants another large bike with super-duper pillion accommodations that I can ferry her around on when she doesn't want to ride her own machine. She will be putting her '15 BMW R1200R for sale locally during the upcoming Sturgis rally, and if it sells, we will likely put the money towardsLa new GL1800, though it may be the manual 6-speed model rather than the auto version, it's a couple G's less.

JB, at the dealer I bought mine it was a $1000 more.  That is the Tour model.  Since I am not a “shifty” kind of gal that wasn’t a choice for me.  The DCT is really nice though I must say.  Especially in traffic.  A co-worker of mine has a 2009 and GW his friend updated his to 2018 DCT and said it was the best thing he ever did. Would the GW be Teresa’s bike?

Would the GW be Teresa’s bike?

Sorta. It would be titled in her name, but they're simply too large for her 5'4", 125 lb frame to safely manage. I would be her chauffeur, she would ride 'cupcake' exclusively on a GL if we bought one, same as we did when we had our 2003 and 2008 1800's.

We are also seriously considering a low-mile, 2014, BMW 1600 GTi that is locally available. We would save 6 or 7 G's by buying it over a new GL1800, so that's a definite possibility.

Bob and I went to Des Plaines Honda and did all the paper work went over the bike.  Traded in his BMW R1150R.  Thank you Lord it is out of the Garage.  :D.  Almost wasnít when he misplaced the keys to the BMW.  Had them 10 days ago.  An hour in a half later he found them.  I thought I was never going to see that bike ever leave the garage.

Honda is putting a 12 volt plug and a couple of Ciro handle bar mounts for accessories.   I will pick up the bike Thursday.   here are a couple of pics from this evening.

I see makes sense.  Good luck in your decision.

Honda gave us a better trade-in for Teresa's BMW than the BMW dealership would for the used 2015 BMW 1600GTi, sooooooo....CathyN and 'Captain Crabbypants' have a bit more in common today than we did yesterday...though we chose the manual 6-speed GL over the DCT model, but only because of the difference in price.
