Let's Ride!!!!!!

« on: January 01, 2019, 06:18:41 PM »

Was a different year for Pete and I w/ regard to riding.  However we still had a good year of "some" riding but more importantly time spent with riding friends.

We had an influx of new users from the Silverwing and Adventure Rider forums.  That was a positive and fun to see new folks.  Was fun to see people meeting up and sharing adventures, not just at the annual rally.

I look forward to the rally in NY this year as well as getting on some other rides!  I look forward to all the upcoming posts this year.

Here's some pics that were posted to the board this year.  (Hey Ron for some reason all your pics are gone :-( )

We lost a beloved member this year in Rich...  hope you are getting in some good rides in heaven, Rich.

The link is fine if the URL is copied and pasted to the browser. Clicking on the URL won't work as the 'linked' characters stop at the exclamation point.

This should work if clicked... https://1drv.ms/v/s!Ah43A-HTnLrKge5_7Cs5lyDBOdghnQ

Happy New Year!

Got it.  Did the highlight, copy and paste thing and it worked just fine.  Thanks for those.  I'd love to have been there with you all on your adventures in '18.

2018 Year End Report … Maggie's post reminded that I had intended to do this ….

1st off, the winter of 2018 - we had some unusually warm days through out Jan.- Feb.   So I got to ride longer rides on those days.

However.  Rain.  Rain.  AND more rain!  18-20 inches about normal this year for my part of the world.

2018 was a year of BIG changes for my scooter shed.  In the spring ... out with the old, in with the NOS.   I sold both my beloved Burgmans.  Then bought a newer 400 and a Vstrom ... Then traded both those in for a 2012 NOS Silverwing in June.  So, now I'm a SilverWinger.   Got it June 22nd.  6000+K as of yesterday.  The Silverwing is basically a crossover/hybrid of the Burgman 400/650.  Faster than the former, lighter than the latter.

Trips - few but fun.  Me and the boys, Virgil and Charles, spent 3 days and two nights at the Red River Gorge in Kentucky back in the spring.  Rode as many roads as we could.  Did the tunnel, stayed at the Lodge, went over to Butcher Holler to Loretta's place.  Highlight?  Kentucky spring rolls.  Yup. A spring rolled stuffed with BBQ. Yummy.

Did a overnighter in NC.  Rode some great rodes in western NC in and around Sylva.

Finally made to a Maxi-scoot Rally this year. Yay!  For a couple days anyway.  Good riding, good food, good fun and making some good new friends.

Latest "trip" was a day ride over to Wears Valley to ride the new link of the Foothills Parkway.   Short and sweet.  The new section is 15 miles.  But really curvy.  In fact, I only remember one straight stretch about 1/4 mile long.  Its really gonna be really scenic in the spring.

While looking thru my pics ... I realized another reason my riding miles where fewer this year.  My bride of 41 years likes to travel during her spring, summer and fall breaks. (she is a skool nurse). AND she doeth NOT ride the scooter. So in the Spring went to Florida ... all the way to the Keys.  In the summer to Red River Gorge in KY.  (yup, return trip for me)  And then to NYC to visit daughter in the fall. Whew!

My vocational responsibilties have increased ... so I don't know what the new year holds as far as riding.  Getting away for more than a day or two is increasingly more difficult.  Oh well,  here's hoping for more overnighter's
