We've seen some of these ideas before, but this one looks like it may be a winner. I like the idea, but not sure about having it flash when I downshift. Might work better(or not) on scooters.

Back in 2012 when I got the X10 I noticed that the tail lights, regardless of the fact that they were intense and very bright, could only be seen from a very narrow arc directly behind the scoot. Other Piaggio machines have the same problem.

Recently I've noticed that other brands are falling into this situation of going for intensity vs volume and arriving at this with focused lenses which doesn't help.

I've been seeing more videos lately where cops comment that anything protruding from the helmet is an illegal mod.  Granted, it's usually said to the stunter crowd, but still worth considering if you stick stuff to the outside of the helmet.

They're referring to US 49 CFR 571.218   S5.5
Quote
Projections. A helmet shall not have any rigid projections inside its shell. Rigid projections outside any helmet's shell shall be limited to those required for operation of essential accessories, and shall not protrude more than 0.20 inch (5 mm).

My GMAX helmet has a built in light and sells an accessory to wirelessly connect to the brake lights. It is noticable at night.
