Nice to see another electric two-wheeler coming to the US market. Not quite the vehicle for me, but it's still pretty neat.

A 50cc that makes a round trip to the mall chancy and costs $8,000 better have ".. reverse. Just like a Gold Wing!"

Why would a Vespa, or any small scooter, need reverse? And reverse like GW is not a major coup, nor is a $7500 urban scooter. That said, it is good to see that Piaggio and other motorcycle companies are offering electric options. If I were still working and had sufficient mad money...

Perhaps speculation here, but the target market likely includes women. Generally with lesser physical strength, they might find electric reverse quite useful. While adding reverse to an electric motor is no mechanical coup, it might provide a marketing advantage.

I looked up "marketing advantage" and found the word "gimmick".
But if you're going to spend that kind of $$$ for a campus crawler you'll want something to show off with.
