Maxi-Scoot Rally 2017

« on: September 23, 2018, 12:33:56 AM »

This afternoon Bob and I went over to our local Honda dealer and took the Africa Twin DCT and Goldwing Tour DCT out for a short test ride. I found the AT in drive mode jerky and notchy so did Bob.  Bob switched to sport mode and it smoother.  I on the other hand didnít realize there were different modes.    I have not been on a Motorcycle since  I took my safety class back in 2010.  I was just trying to get a feel for it. The  AT is a tall bike, I was able to flat foot it just barely.  It was strange hearing the gears change so loudly.

We then switched bikes.  I found the GW Tour quite comfortable not as tall and very smooth.  Low center of gravity.  Was easy enough to get on.  Bob found it quite nice also.  I seemed to handle the weight ok.  We were just on some side streets and some secondary roads. Did not take them on the highway.  I wasnít ready for that.

After riding the two bikes I felt a bit cramped on my Swing.  Especially after the GW.  Glad I took them for a test ride.  I have only owned one bike which of course is the Swing.  Only road small bikes on the safety course.  I would consider the Goldwing it I won the lottery.

I was just about to post that I got a ride on a Gold Wing manual trans today.  I left the engine power in tour mode and it had plenty of 'go'.  It was one of the loaded models, and I was really surprised at both the power and the balance it had.

The fiancee got a ride on an NC750 and was generally happy with it, especially the power.  She's not willing to give up her s'wing for one tho - too tall and not enough storage.  She thinks she'd be uncomfortable pretty quickly.  It's too bad they didn't have a CTX700N available, I really wanted a ride on that.

Great reports Cathy! You must have the itch for a new ride.

No, he will never give up his GS.  I would consider the wing if I fell into a boat load of money.  It was really nice.
