Sometimes you just have to be lucky. Rode past this Doe in Lake Guntersville State Park today and had time to turn the bike around, get off, get out the camera, change the lens and she's still just ambling along. Guess Bambi knows it's not hunting season until November.

Then I rode over to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville Alabama. Pretty amazing to see a full-size Saturn V up close, and also a Shuttle mated to the external fuel tank and solid fuel boosters.
And of course there is an awesome SR-71 Blackbird parked out front. Gee, I wonder which one of us is faster!!!

And lastly, an artsy photo of The Limrock Alabama General Store, Circa 1881.

Finally getting to ride reports.  Was having to good a time to do them during the week.

Ride Down

Cathy and Bob meet us at Peteís sister house in Nashville.  I drove the truck. We rode over to Lynchburg via the Natchez Trace.   After lunch we headed into Lake Guntersville.

We ate at the Barrel House BBQ. I love this place!

I had the crack on cheese, itís so darn good. Also tried the Butterscotch Root Beer. I love root beer and I love butterscotch, WoW!

Once settled we did some grocery shopping.  Bruce passing the goods

Tuesday night we met up for supper at The Docks.  I love seeing everyone after a year!!

Our sunset view wasnít too shabby

Wednesday Lynchburg Ride

We followed the big red truck lead by me.

Alabama has some nice twisty roads but damn they are rough.  Alabama 65 was a  super nice twisty road.

We rode into to Lynchburg and most took my advice and ate at the Barrel House. Pete and I split some ribs and pork.  Was very good!

These guys were 1800 miles from home.  Home was Mexico.  After Lynchburg they were headed north then west.

Pete wants him to make a move.

Pete and his sister Edith Ann, umm Karen

Pete and I certainly pumped some money into the local economy.   Karen and I went to the Lynchburg Winery.   It was amazing!! Came home with a few bottles.

We made the stop at the state line for a group photo!! Thanks for doing that for me all!!

So onto  my surprise stop that I kept a secret for 9 months :-)

The Rock Zoo.  I was so happy that you all were excited to see the zoo!!

Yes, it was - nothing wrong with your hearing.  I had it tied to the horizontal bar of my home brew camera bracket, and it slid over to the vertical part and was banging there.

Rock City and Little River Canyon

The roads over to Rock City start out calm then ended up crazy like. The portion in GA was steep and gorgeous.

Rock City was, is and will always be a tourist trap but it was fun!!

We walked out to the point and saw the 7 states and the waterfall.  Afterwards we took a respite in the air and had lunch.

After lunch we walked through the gnome forest and fairyland cavern.  This was the best part! If you ever go, donít skip this portion

After we left Rock City we rode down Lookout Mountain.   There we picked up 103 into Alabama. Iím not 100% sure but I think I heard banjos.

Little River Canyon was everything I remembered as a kid, pretty.

I have some video I will process later of the road.

On Friday, Steve, Jan, Cathy, Ron and I headed the long way to South Pittsburg.

We went back up County Rd 33 and came down the other side on County Rd 39.  12 switchbacks in in 1.5 miles.  It was fun and stressful all in one.  From there we crossed the Tenn River after two more mountain crossings.  Rode along the river up to South Pittsburg, TN.  There we hooked up with Joan and John.

I know it's a fun ride when I don't get pictures of the road.

The Dixie Freeze had roasted brussel sprouts :-)

Beautiful photos and videos everyone even more disappointed at missing all the rides and my only appearance, caught in Joan's video with turn signal flashing forever. Otherwise nothing much to contribute here, though I did explore downtown Scottsboro a while missing the rides.

Saturday breakfast ride

Man you guys came with an appetite!   I never thought we would go through 5 pounds of meat, 2 dozen biscuits, 2 dozen eggs, a large pan of cheese grits, chocolate cake, pumpkin bread and a gallon of sausage and gravy but yíall did!!

Special thanks to Karen and Pete for helping prepare breakfast.

Thanks to Wynn for the second half of the ride.   We realized with the rain in the north a lot of people wanted to get back earlier than 6pm to prepare to leave on Sunday so we let the Saturday supper in Guntersville go.

We rode over to the lodge together then Wynn lead most of the group back to Scottsboro.

Easy to see why Lake Guntersville lodge is the crown jewel in the Alabama State Park system.  When we came back after moving we always stayed in the cabins down by the lake.  They have really upgraded over the years.

Pete and I wanted to do the zip lines but we just didnít have enough time this trip.

After we separated from the group we rode into Guntersville.   Was happy to pass yíall on the street I lived on.

Cracked me up that Bob said Wyeth Drive was a road that it looked like someone took a paver through the woods and created a road.

Itís hard to imagine I rode my bike all the way across to school every day.

I took his picture when I rode back to Guntersville in Sunday.  I had my first accident 35+ years ago just beyond this curve.   Speed may or may not have played a big part of putting it in the ditch

I was incredibly sad that the golf course I played is now all new homes.  I was even sad that downtown is all built up with stores and fast food restaurants.  Guess you canít stop progress.

Thanks again all for coming to Alabama.
