I rode out to High falls yesterday.  We stopped along the way at the natural bridge near Guntersville.

We have had huge amounts of rain so the falls were raging.

I have been here many times but have never seen them like this.

Some of you may remember Rick, he came to one of the dinners in scottsboro but missed all the rides at the rally due to a poorly running scooter.  He finally took it down to max motorsports.  They fixed it after the dealer in TN couldn't figure it out.

Some more pictures from the ride back home.

.

.

Did I mention we had some rain?  Those lakes on both sides of the roads are supposed to be fields.

February 1st in Alabama and it felt like springtime with temps in the 60s and sunny.  I didn't even have to bundle up to ride out and get some sunset pictures.

It's starting to heat back up here in Alabama so it's time to bring this thread back to life.  I expect to do a lot more scooting this year.  Yesterday was my last day at work so now I'm officially retired.  I got off work for the last day on Friday morning.  Friday afternoon I went for a ride.  It was just a short ride to the local Wheeler Wildlife refuge.  The roads aren't paved but I enjoy the scenery and I wanted to ride my scooter so...

It was windy enough to create whitecaps on the Tennessee River.

I'm planning on getting out and doing some exploring in Tennessee next week.  It's great not having to wait until the weekend.  Every day is a weekend now

It can get pretty hot in Alabama and we have had at least a week of highs in the 90s.  Sometimes the best thing to do in the Alabama heat is ride somewhere not as hot.  I headed East.  I saw this old MG on Sand Mountain.

I saw this sign in Georgia.

Overlook near Chattsworth, GA.

.

I'll be in N. GA and then NC for the next several days.  The forecast calls for lows in the 40s by next week.

Our friend Ed is down there now.  You guys probably crossed paths today.  I liked the Snake, was a nice road.

Steve made it to the Snake but I didn't.

Here's how that happened.  We left Maggie Valley and I led the way to Hot Springs via some back roads that are tight, twisty and rough in some places.  I ended up getting way ahead of Steve.  I thought he was just hanging back but he told me later he simply couldn't keep up with my Majesty with his V strom 1000.  He said it just isn't a good bike for tight and rough roads.  I got to a four way intersection and since we had done this route before I ASSUMED he knew to go straight.  He didn't and ended up turning around and taking a route he knew.  I went to the next intersection and waited.  And waited.  I checked my phone.  No message.  So I went back hoping nothing happened to him.  I checked my phone again and sent him a text.  I rode that road again looking for signs he had gone off the road and over the edge.  I headed to 209 and stopped at the Ferguson store.  I texted and called and waited.  Steve finally found some place where he had a signal and texted back.

At this point he was way ahead of me and it was too late for me to ride to Shady Valley.  I decided to explore and ride some local roads.

So I rode 209 north and quickly got stuck behind some slow Harleys.  Eventually I got by them.  I turned right on 63.  What an awesome road.

Then I turned on a road I had never ridden before and eventually came to Marshall.

After Marshall I went exploring.  I rode some super tight but sometimes dirty roads that made the dragon look easy.  I found this interesting waterfalls.

I found a bridge across the French Broad River I didn't know existed.  I crossed it and went exploring.  Great roads and scenery but I ended up at a dead end.  Someday I will go back and explore that area but I turned around and headed to and area I knew.

I had my lunch consisting of a bag of peanuts, granola bar and fruit punch at this spot along the French Broad River.

BTW, the road to get to this point is seriously twisty and fun.  Across the bridge is another awesome road.  It eventually turns to dirt but is one of my favorites.

Time to ride some of my favorites in Madison county.

The road in the pic above is so twisty that if you ride too fast you will run over your own tail light :D  Unlike the "dragon" it has no straights.  It's about 5 miles of pure fun.  There was no traffic.  I continued to ride.  I saw very little traffic.  At one point I went at least a half hour minutes without seeing another vehicle.

.

The Majesty worked great on these roads.  I could go faster on the Versys but I'd be working harder.

.

Temperatures in the 60s and 70s, fantastic roads and no traffic.  It just doesn't get much better than this.

I went back through Marshall.

Looking back at Marshall.

It was late afternoon and there was some traffic on the roads.  I got stuck behind one truck doing 50-55.  When we got to a passing zone of course he sped up.  I had to crank it up to 80 to pass.
