On Tuesday it was time to head for home.  I started out by doing a short stretch of the BRP.  View from Waterrock knob.

.

I rode 74 and 28 to Deal's Gap.  Being a Tuesday i figured it wouldn't be too crowded.

I was WRONG!!  It looked like a weekend there.

.

We had seen a bunch of Slingshots in Maggie Valley and there were some here to.

A Vanderhall:

???

I expected a slow ride stuck behind traffic but timed it just right when I rode through the Gap

This next pic is 129 as it runs along the lake.

I made it home around 5 PM after around 375 miles.  I was lucky as it never got hot even in Alabama.

I find it interesting the large number of cruiser bikes one sees at the Gap. Of course they are entitled but seems a bit out of character to me.

I took a ride over to Decatur today.

This is not something you see every day on North Alabama so i went and checked it out.

.

Then I stopped by my favorite local dealer.  Anyone looking for mint 2015 Tmax with only a few hundred miles on it and a bunch of extras?

Cheapest gas I've seen in a while.  I only needed 1.3 gallons so I didn't exactly save a bundle.

Local dealer had this latest version of ATGATT on display.

I got out early this morning to try to beat the heat.  It's October and 96 degrees right now.  It was cool this morning.

My odometer went over 5700 miles today.  Not bad for less than 8 months of riding.

The weather here in Alabama is warming up nicely and we were one of the last states to issue a "stay hone" order which goes into effect 5PM today.  It looks like we can still legally ride under that order as long as we limit groups to under 10 and maintain social distancing.  Because I don't want to end up in the hospital at a time like this I have been limiting my riding and riding very cautiously.

I went for a ride to catch the sunset a couple of days ago.  I rode in an area with very little traffic just west of my house.

It looked promising about 35 minutes before sunset.

Passing through a small community.

I prefer to take sunset pics as the sun sets over water but we've had so much rain that getting to my normal spots would require a boat so this was my backup.

This is a dead end dirt road in the Wheeler Wildlife refuge. I was there for around 30 minutes and there was no traffic. Social distancing at it's best.

I took a bunch of pics from different angles as the sun set. Most of the 57 pics I took were from this spot. I won't bore you with all of them, many are very similar. Here's a few more.

.

.

.

Heading for home I snapped this one while riding.

I was most of the way home and happened to get a view out to the west and saw that the sky was lit up. I took a right turn hoping to get some pics before it faded away.

By the time a found a good place to park the colors were fading.

It ended up being less than a 20 mile ride but it felt good to get out.

On Thursday I had a full day. It started out with a run to Wally World for some combat shopping. I figured if Alabama goes to shelter in place than all my ride reports would look like this one.

Before leaving I checked the ADV scooter tag and saw it was something I could easily Grab so I did. It was "dead End".

There were a bunch of people out fishing. I got one of them in this pic.

There were 4 guys getting ready to launch a boat.  Not sure how they were going to practice social distancing.

This guy was out getting some exercise while practicing social distancing.

On my way to Wally World.

We got a new Duluth Trading Company store late last year but I have yet to stop and check it out. It ain't happening anytime soon as it's closed like most retail stores.

It ain't the dragon but it is a curve.....woo hoo

Wally World was pretty busy.

Next up:  The art of combat shopping, surviving and riding home.

I had made some preparations to help me safely survive the shopping experience.

I had decided to try wearing some gloves while shopping and then take them off when finished. The wipes were there in case I needed them.

I didn't go quite like I planned. I used the self checkout to avoid the long lines at the checkouts with cashiers. I had to take off one of the gloves to operate the touch screen.

50+ bucks of groceries easily fit into my 56L Give tail box.

The weather was beautiful and I took a slight detour to make the ride home more interesting.

.

.

After I got home I stuck my boots and gloves out in the sun to kill any viruses they might have picked up.

And of course I thoroughly washed my hands.

My day was just getting started. More to come......

I called Max Motorsports to check on my scooter and........it was ready to go

Of course that meant a boring drive of over 100 miles each way to pick it up. Since it was already afternoon it meant I would be dealing with Birmingham traffic at rush hour. Normally I wouldn't do that but I figured the traffic would be light so I grabbed my riding gear and put my ramp in the truck and off I went. The drive down was boring as usual. Traffic wasn't bad but not as light as I expected.

When I got there I took the scooter for a short ride. Normally I would have done a longer ride to check out the scooter before driving all the way home but I decided to take my chances. They had replaced the wiring harness that goes to the injector as well as the tip over sensor.

Traffic was heavy enough on the drive back up I-65 to result in bumper to bumper, stop and go traffic. Once due to an accident and another time due to construction. It would have been a real mess with the normal amount of traffic.

I got home early enough that I had time to go catch the sunset, again.......

I headed check out how my Like was running and to get some more sunset pics. With few clouds in the sky I didn't have high hopes for any spectacular pics. I set up at a different spot that I had used before.

Pretty funkadelic

I took a bunch of pics from different positions and even moved the scooter a few times.

.

Parking here is a bit tricky as there is only a small, sloped area to park. I wouldn't want to do it with a big heavy bike.

.

I headed off hoping I might get a few pics from other spots before the sun disappeared.

Got this one while riding.

.

.

Another on the go.

The weather for last Saturday was about perfect so I couldn't resist jumping on the Like and going for a local ride. It was 69 degrees and sunny, the forecast for Sunday was strong storms, wind, hail, and possible tornadoes.  Time to ride before a tornado got me!

I started out by heading South a couple of miles to the Tennessee river.

Lot's of people out boating.

I don't know what this old building used to be but it's been like this for as long as I have lived here.

Rode to another spot on the water. This is an inlet connecting a few creeks to the Tennessee river. Someday I need to rent a canoe and explore it. Getting to this spot involves a steep, poorly maintained road so I felt like I was doing something at least a little adventurous.

Whoo Hoo! Curves

OK, there's a total of 2 or 3 curves but at least I get to lean a little.

For years I have been riding past a gravel trail and wondering where it went so I figured it was time to check it out.

It went maybe 200 yards before ending at a creek but I got to ride somewhere new!

I backtracked and too another fork to get a pic of a bridge that I have crossed hundreds of times.

I cut through a really nice subdivision. I realize that riding through a subdivision with a 25 MPH speed limit doesn't seem exciting but on a small scooter it can be enjoyable. I even found one of my favorite signs in the middle of the subdivision.

So I ended up riding nearly 20 miles while never getting more than around 4 miles from my house.

Thanks for the ride-along. Would that we could even do that.

Many, many folk tried to sneak out of Athens yesterday for a day at the beach. Smokey, wore out a mess of pens, got some cases of writer's cramps, and made a whole flock of money.
