Latest update on Darwin.
<snip>
I just hope this isn't the end of his riding days. We've been riding together for 33 years.

Hush yo mouth @EZMark ,course he's gonna be able to ride again. Uh, assuming SWMBO gives permission

Hope he heals fast.   Darwin has always been so active so hopefully that helps with healing.

Darwin is in outstanding physical and mental condition for his age.  Steve's comment was that he's 83 but rides like he's 18.  I think he's in such great condition because he's so active.  I'm sure you have heard the saying:  "you don't stop riding because you are old, you get old because you stop riding.

One of the things he told me was that he was planning on going to Utah next year.  I promised him I'd send him a link to my ride report from my trip there in 2015 so I'm going to post it here to give him some motivation and give him something to do while he's recovering.   https://advrider.com/index.php?threads/southwest-by-versys.1066154/

I ,for one, fully expect Darwin(and his wife) to be with us in Alabama. That's a good two months away. I would be willing to bet he's riding  in less than six weeks!

He's a fast healer, but this is the worst injury I've seen him suffer.
His cousin had a similar injury and it took her 6 months to recover.
I figure Darwin will take 4.

Probably about right, that break needs to be fully healed. Darwin won't like all that inactivity so hopefully they will start PT while he is still in a boot/cast. Certainly helped me recover.

Darwin's daughter is a nurse so she will push PT quickly.  They won't have to convince Darwin he will happily go.  This is a man that goes to the gym twice a day if he's bored.

Darwin should be heading home Sunday. He had to do some extra therapy and crutch training because his house has a lot of steps. He said the therapy hurts, but that's to be expected since he banged up his left side and he's using 2 crutches.

Just opened this thread hoping to see pictures/video of the ride. While I don’t know Darwin, I am sorry to hear of his accident and wish him a speedy recovery. Those curvy roads looked awesome. It appears that all were having a blast prior to the accident and enjoying the ride. Darwin is lucky that he had good people with him that day.

Darwin got home Sunday night. He got a rod installed almost the whole length of his calf. Not getting around much, but he's doing therapy. I'll get a picture next time I'm over there.

Sorry to hear about this, Darwin HEAL, get back on that horse and ride again it's what kept me going for many more years. I'm not quite as old but darn near and try to ride as often as I can. Last Sunday I arrived at a crash scene just moments after it happen, a HD dresser on a good road no gravel mild left turner but he went straight, I got the thumbs up it was under control so I rode on.
