Ya, that's a shame, but not everything has to be grey.

Are red scooters officially looked upon as for women, or something else?

No, they're just not the officially approved and generally more pleasing gray or black.
Brightly colored scoots are reserved for Europe and Asia.

It'a a well known fact in the motorcycle/scooter world that red is the fastest, coolest color; owned only by the smartest, nicest people.

I must second this utterly brilliant observation, red is THE scooter color of dashing, suave, well-read and well-travelled gentleman and elegant, classy ladies!!

Many things I was told and believed in the 1960's turned out to be propaganda, balderdash and distortions of truth but it made me the man I am today, broken, disillusioned, disgruntled and paranoid. The truths from then such as 'You meet the nicest people on a Honda' have kept me from falling into the dark abyss while maintaining my bright and cheery disposition. I have certainly met some of the nicest people on a Honda as well as every brand motorbike that comes to mind and haven't noticed a variance in percentage one from another. I have attempted to become one of them, on Honda and others, but I often have difficulty staying on task.
