« on: December 05, 2017, 05:29:46 AM »

I am on a road trip with my two older brothers on our way to our nephews wedding in NJ.  We were able to stop at The Lucy and Desi Museum in Jamestown,NY.  We enjoyed it.  Here are some photos.

I HAD to take a close look at the statue to see if it was the good one or the first one that was rejected.

For those of you who didn't see what I'm talking about... the 1st offering looked like this & was rejected for some reason!

Very cool, Cathy!!! I still watch episodes of I Love Lucy and still split a gut laughing!

Don, I remember the uproar over the initial design.

I can see why that first statue was rejected.  Aside from the figure holding what appears to be whisky flask, it doesn’t even look like anyone.

I was never into Lucy and Desi, but the more I see of current-day “comedy,” the more disgruntled I’ve become toward it, and the more I appreciate those old comedy acts and sitcoms.  The humor was clean, or at least reasonably so, and the comedians were able to deliver without the “F-bomb” as every other word.  Back then it was just silly humor and totally inoffensive.  Can’t speak for how the non-television shows were.  I imagine there was plenty of off-color humor then, too.  Just not as offensive as it is today.

While I watched Lucy, she wasn't my fav. When I saw this statue (the first one) I wondered how blind the people were that accepted it before the outcry.

Red Skelton first, Dean Martin/Foster Brooks, Jack Benny, Benny Hill (I know, a little out there...), and Bob Hope are at the top of my list.

I thought the same thing.  That doesn’t look like her at all.  It is in the park named after her.

I can cuss like a sailor but I hate cuss words on TV.   I doubt any parent allows kids to watch TV anymore.  I was shocked last night when on network TV someone called someone a bitch.

I have no idea what show it was on, I rarely watch TV anymore.  Pete however is addicted to TV.  It HAS to be on.

At night I sit and read.   I have convinced him to drop cable. We've saved $140.  We have sling and netflix.  If I could giveaway the TV I would be happy.

yer Pete and my Cindy Lou!  I do like and watch a few shows ... sports, a few good dramas, old shows are the best... but would love to limit the viewing time:-)  Of course, I'd love to live in relative peace and harmony as well:-)

And the language! I don't mind it when its part of a character ... but its so gratuitous.   Geezzzz.

I've got some selected shows I watch but the wife and I either enjoy a good movie (if/when one can be found) or some old shows. The current time filler is Boston Legal for the 2ed time around. Dame Judi Dench's latest offering is on tap for this evening.

I can watch the Lucy shows, but never really cared for them very much. What I can watch, however, are the old Andy Griffith shows.

Yep, whole town was always happy except for the drunk...well, guess he was sometimes. And he was the only one married and preferred jail to going home.
Am I remembering that right? And his name was Otis?

Otis Campbell..

It was largely thanks to the ensemble of small town eccentrics surrounding the relatively 'straight man' Griffith that made the show so great to watch, and of course, the timeless story plots.

It's was a formula for many successful sitcoms, both early, and contemporary.

A bit off topic.......

A few days ago I watched a couple old episodes of "Wonder Woman" I didn't realize how silly that show was back then! But back then what Guy was paying attention to the show anyway!

I don't think I've ever watched an entire Wonder Woman episode. I never thought Linda Carter was attractive, especially in that horrible outfit they squeezed her into, it looks just painfully tight and stiff.

It had none of the campy humor and deliberate silliness of the Adam West Batman shows, which were bad enough, but with some  redeeming qualities.

I forgot about Newmar, but yes, way better than Eartha Kitt's Catwoman.

I had to go alookin' about this Newmar person 'cause SOME OF US were defending our freedoms upon the high seas and didn't get to hang around "the beach" watching TV back then.

But, the search was worth the time   and I see that this catwoman was almost as good an actress as 7of9!
