The last few weeks I have suffered terribly from a dental problem that finally ended on Tuesday.  On Tuesday I was on the way to the dentist and stopped at a red light on the TMAX.  There was a stopped car behind me as well.  When the light turned to green I didn't start immediately as I was adjusting my glove.  At the second the light turned green the car behind me gave it gas and drove into the back end of the TMAX.  He was only going about ten when he hit me because he didn't have much room to get going (thank god).  I actually had the parking brake on and he pushed the bike forward about ten feet and then I dropped it and fell.

The poor kid that did it thought he killed me but I was on my feet in thirty seconds.  The bike is ride-able but some scuff and the back fender is pushed in a little (doesn't rub tire).  The kid had good insurance and wrote me a note agreeing that the accident was his fault.  I just need to bring the TMAX to the dealer and coordinate the dealer with Allstate Ins.  Now that the toothache is gone I can tell that my right shoulder and couple of right ribs hurt a little.

Just for detail, I was wearing ATGATT and the gear seems to have done well. I was wearing a high viz red jacket with a red, white and blue helmet The kid was so freaked out that I do think he learned a lesson.  He offered to drive me to the dentist and told me that if for any reason my bike broke down after that just call him and he'd come get me.

It surely could have been worse, but it's getting tiring, this risking my life just to go to the dentist.  I think a little that Chicago traffic just isn't the safest place for a M/C.

If it wasn't for bad luck, you wouldn't have any-when it comes to bikes. Next time you get a new bike, knock it over immediately so that the first ding is over and done with. I'm glad to hear that you escaped relatively unscathed....again!

Doesn't seem like you could have done anything differently. At least the other driver took ownership of his error and is trying to make things right. Really pleased you were wearing good gear to limit the injuries.

The traffic light rear-ends are the best to have (if that's possible) as oppose to someone coming around a blind curve and not expecting a vehicle (or bike) in front of them). I was rear-ended at a toll booth so I can relate to the similar circumstance.

Not sure why people don't wait for the person ahead of them to actually move ahead of them before stepping on the gas?

Glad you didn't get hurt Rich.
When I ride, I get out of town as quickly as possible.
I'll take my chances with the stupid deer over the stupid distracted drivers any day.

You are all right, the city riding is the most dangerous.  I should maybe consider giving up riding to and for work most of the time, and save my riding for weekends and vacations.  BTW the FJR broke 45,000 miles his weekend when I bought it in July of 16 it had about 20k.  I think the TMAX broke 25k and had 10k when I bought in mid of last summer, and the DN-01 has 22k and had about 10k when I bought it in February.  So I guess that I rode about 50k in the last year.  That just gives more chances for bad things to happen.
