We have a lot of unusual named cities/communities in Alabama. Beehive, Rainbow, Cuba, Five Fork, Lick Skillet, etc. Here is a link to 30 of them: http://www.onlyinyourstate.com/alabama/30-alabama-bizarre-town-names/Now, due to this thread, I've started a new personal Google Map to pin them, then see if I can ride and take photos of them. So far, of the first ten I've pinned, only 8 of them have something there to photo with the name to prove/document when I'm there. You know: No photo, it didn't happen. Maybe a road sign with GPS coordinates. Edit: even though it wasn't stated by the OP, I'm assuming the challenge was to go and photo document the place existence with your bike?

I was looking at some fellow riders posting Postal Photos and they had posted a pic with the local P.O. there. Another responded with this one on the opposite coast: https://goo.gl/maps/vBtiCacL8fr

Not all names for interesting places are towns. There are some interesting names on creeks around here. Crossed this one on my ride last weekend.

Ran across a couple more interesting creek names. Pot Rack Creek and Desert Creek. Also found the story of how the names came to be. Back in 1844 a group of three men ventured up into what is now Collin County. At that time it was still Indian controlled territory and few white men went there for fear of getting their hair lifted. They found a creek and set up camp on it's bank. Two of the men went exploring and found another creek. There they discovered a branch that had been stuck into the creek bank by the Indians to hang their pots on. So they named it Pot Rack Creek. When they got back to their camp they discovered the third man had deserted so they named that creek Desert Creek. Finding Desert Creek also answered something I had been puzzling about for a while. North of these ceeks there is a small town named Desert. Short of the namers just being fond of pie after supper did not know where the name came from. Seems Desert Creek parallels the highway up past the town and the town was built on it's banks. So the town was named after the creek. Not much there. Just a few houses, a gas station, and a cemetery. The town highway sign is beside the cemetery.

No new posts in 3 months, has everyone quite riding? Also lots of "X's" where pictures used to be. Mostly this is just a bump.

Cool thread. Here in WNC we have Luck and Trust right next to each other. Also Blackjack and Fair Play close by in South Carolina. Went through Gaysport Ohio a couple years ago but didn't stop. Wasn't going to take any chances. It's right next to Blue Rock. Already been through Hell and Paradise as well as had a beer at the Gay Bar and camped one night at Big Bone Lick. Had my long time girlfriend with for that one.
More central of NC is Climax, I've wondered if it's coincidence Climax is situated between Pleasant Garden and Liberty.

Couldn't resist adding this town and this important piece of Newfoundland history that recently took place ... https://etcanada.com/news/489526/jimmy-kimmel-becomes-the-first-mayor-of-dildo-n-l/ Hopefully we'll have a personal Dildo experience when we're touring down east in NL & Labrador next summer.

Dildo is about a 30 minute ride from where I live, nice little town. Will you be touring on two wheels?

One of our favorite “places” is actually a road south of Caldwell, Idaho called Chicken Dinner Road. It was such an unusual name that we were enamored of it. Turns out it got its name from the fact that a farmer and his family invited a candidate for governor to their house for a chicken dinner back in 1904 or something like that. We got a chuckle out of the name, and we still talk about it.
