Maggie, you picked a good place to eat when you stopped at Syl's. That is the same place myself and two of my riding buddy's had pasties the last time I was up there, 2010. Actually, if you are looking for something to eat in Ontonagon you don't have a lot of choices. Looks like you all had a great ride.

The group pic at the bonfire looks like Survivor - Wisconson.  Who will they kick off next?

Vic, Syls was beyond worth it!

Saturday was on off day for me.  For the first time in 6 years I missed a rally ride.  I was just not feeling well, wish I could have blamed it on drinking but I didn't have any alcohol at the bonfire.  I think the ragweed got to me

So there's lots of pictures on the Facebook page re Lou's ride.  I'm bummed I missed the fire tower, was looking forward to that

I did have a nice day to myself of doing laundry and packing.

With a lunch by the lake of the best of Wisconsin

Steve made me an a honorary biker duck member, life is good!

Maggie is ther anyway we can view these videos.  I am one of the diehards holding out on joining Facebook.  If not I will have to resort to my children to let me view them with there password.  God knows they won't just had it over.  I may embarrass them.

I arrived at Patricia Lake Campground a day late, dollar short and drained around 1800 (hour not year) Wednesday evening following 17 hours on the road. Some kind campground neighbors provided a block for the trailer tongue and a smashed drink can to avoid trailer and scoot sinking into sand, unloaded the scoot and invited me to sit by their fire. (Thanks to Photobucket getting persnickety about 3rd party hosting I had to find a new host so late here also)

The kind neighbors who suggested the campground, helped setup, unloaded my motorbike and would next night provide dinner followed by peach/berry pie and ice cream, a warm fire and friendship. Kyser Sosa or Young Wendy hiding behind table, Diane preparing dinner?.

As sun set on Wednesday, I crawled into my makeshift home, pumped up the air mattress and was zonked out cozy under a sleeping bag by 2030. I was woken at 0700 by the alarm on my phone and the ding, ding, ding of raindrops on the metal roof. So warm and cozy under cover, lack of heat in trailer and initiative in body, raindrops dinging a metal lullaby I rolled over and didn't wake again until 0930. Following a trip to Walmart and breakfast at Tula's, where a kind waitress payed for an old retired GI's meal (bless here heart) I returned to the campground just as morning turned to afternoon and sun broke clouds. At that time my friendly neighbors, local folks, offered a tour of local sites which I couldn't refuse.

The Cheese Board - a fine assortment of local cheese, fudge and candy. I sampled the horseradish cheese spread, yummy

And you are now familiar with the World's largest Penny which unlike "the rocking chair" I did see and Diane.

Friday I showed up at the meeting site and rode with a bunch of people, everyone knows where and the stops have been documented better than I ever could so I'll just address the riding and post a few photos maybe from another perspective. There was some great riding, nice variety of curvy roads. The number of gravel roads and drives entering paved often left some nasty surprises but all were visible with plenty of time to slow pace or avoid when inclined to do so. In one section of the return trip I was privileged and stupid enough to attempt keeping pace with Darwin, emphasis on attempt. I watched him blow through that dirt curve (if you rode Friday you know the one) and tried to follow his track hoping he cleaned it out. Sur'nuf Old Blue's rear broke loose, there was a whole lot of sphincter and other tightening as, to late to back out, I grabbed throttle and hoped she'd find a spot of grip, lucky, lucky. A few curves later I watched Darwin's rear tire move a foot sideways on a gravel infested up hill left hander. I backed out and took a line a bit more clear. I'm not sure he or passenger, him being 2 up, even notice the rear tire slip sideways. Yee Haw, a tip of the hat to you, Darwin!

During the Civil War Morgan Kirby and three sons left the mountains of North Georgia and joined the Union Army in Blount County, Tennessee. Only my 2nd great grandfather returned. Morgan and the other two sons fell to disease. Some may remember during the Nashville Rally I visited the graves of Andrew and David at Nashville National Cemetery. On the way home this trip I stopped at New Albany National Cemetery, New Albany, Indiana and visited my 3rd great grandfather, Morgan Kirby for the first time. Many thanks Joan for all the directions, information and for your visit with him.

One more note, I did bring a baffle with me and intended to install it prior to riding but forgot, some seemed to notice 'Ole Blue' was a bit boisterous, those riding Saturday were privileged to her quieter side. My apologies if her open attitude disrupted anyone's ride. While on the subject, I believe once again she became the only representative of Kwang Yang Motor Company. I had hoped with all the latest KYMCO riding members there would be more. Lastly I believe 'Ole Blue' is the only scooter to have been on the ground at every rally from Milton to Minocqua.

The sand patch on K was this years "turn" I think we all slide through.  Even on three wheels I moved the back wheel a good distance per Steve who was behind me on his Burgman

Glad you had a good time and it was good to see you again Phil.  I've spent enough time riding behind Darwin to know that he likes to slide his back wheel through turns.  At first it really worried me, then I came to understand that he's been doing it for years and has complete control over the sliding back wheel.  He also sometimes likes to do turns using some of the wrong side of the road. which can be disconcerting when your behind him, but he only does it when he can see there is no oncoming traffic.  When Darwin is on top of his game he's very hard to keep up with and he's been riding as long as I've been alive.

Always good to see you, Rich! It's always interesting to see what motorbike is going to show up with you. Riding straight from Chicago just in time for a day of riding that's some hard nosed stuff there, much respect! I almost backed out of attending this year several times but I kept thinking of Lou and others who had made the long trips south. I am so glad I made it there, had a great time, saw some wondrous sites, old friends, met some new, great food and fun riding. I regret there wasn't time to try pasties, sample more pies and cheese.

Up in the Lake Of The Clouds with our amazing organizer/leader Maggie ...

Karin found the dairy herd ...

A beautiful, relaxing spot at Hill of Beans where we waited for y'all to finish ... er get your lunches.

A whole lotta bull right here ... and that includes my big red buddy!

Seriously, thanks Maggie for putting together yet another great get-together.  Truly enjoyable ... especially seeing old riding friends and making some new ones.

And Lou, thanks for putting together and leading the Saturday ride.  You've now created the memory and set the high bar as to where I can get the single biggest scoot of ice cream! Holy Moly!!!

For those who don't have Facebook access ... here are some clips from Friday's ride.  Nothing spectacular (chalk it up to camera balking and operator error - missed K), but it might serve to kill a few minutes on a rainy day when you're stuck inside.  Hopefully I did better on Saturday ... we'll see.
