Let's Ride!!!!!!

« on: September 20, 2017, 01:16:41 PM »

As most know the next rally will be in Northern Alabama   I have not decided on the exact location just yet. Trying to find a spot where we are all together, a place like Huzzah.

A friend gave me a recommendation besides Lake Guntersville Lodge.  It's close to the lodge.  When Pete and I come back from FL we will check it out.  (we have a planned few day stop in Guntersville/Huntsville) It has campsites, RV parking and cabins and a Huzzah Hilton type place :-)

Did you all like having the rally the week of Labor Day?  Should I move back to the following week?  I think the week of Labor Day gives those from north better shot at better weather especially going home.

I picked NoAL for a few reasons.  I was raised in a small town there and I know the roads are wicked nice and there are a lot of sights to see.

I would like to plan a day down to the Barber Museum.  I think we all would enjoy that.  I want to try and see if somehow we can ride the track as a group.

We always try to make the Maxi-Scoots Rally into a week long vacation due to the distance we travel from the True North.  So, we like the earlier time window ...
having the Rally during the Labor Day holiday week.

Not only does the weather tend to be a little nicer for travelling, we can "carry over" the holiday Monday and use it as a travel day on the Monday following the Rally to get back home and get some rest before returning to work.

First two weeks of September (Labour Day onwards) works fine for me. Like others, I can carry over the Stat holiday to the week I get home.
For me, it's a two week trip as I'll ride down and back.

Only concern is an event like Irma/Harvey could really "dampen" the enthusiasm!

Funny when we went to Niagara Falls then to our first Maxi Scoot rally six yeras ago, all our rain was fall out from I believe Hurricane Irene. It was torrential in the Falls area.  So much we missed a ride around the area.  So no matter where we go we can be effected by hurricane weather.

But we've always managed with the weather as shown in this last rally.  I didn't ride all that way to stay in and miss Lake of the Clouds and Syls.

I liked the earlier Labor Day week this year. It fits in the schedule well.

I found traveling on Labor day to get somewhere somewhat a P.I.T.A. I could avoid that, though, by cutting my time and leaving a day later. It will be a two day ride to get there, but if it's going to be like everywhere else I've been, I'd hate to lose riding on Wednesday. I'll be traveling four days to ride three. BUT-I'd do it, because I've had great times!

I have my niece's wedding September, 2nd next year. That is Sunday.  Not sure if we would make it or not.  We could leave on Monday. We will have to see.  A week later works for me.  Work is always in play.  Never know who wants that week off.  With school starting.

Guntersville area IS beautiful.  Barber Motorcycle Is awesome.   Close by fer me, though I haven't made one of these YET    But I got most of the T-shirts

We did a day ride in that area a couple years ago .... to Fort Payne,  over to Lake Weiss?, back thru Little River Canyon? I think it was called ... very nice ride.

If you've never seen the Barber museum, it's quite impressive.

I love Lake Guntersville. Obviously Iím biased since I grew up on the Lake.  There lots of rides to choose from.  The ride to Barber will probably be on the more boring side but the ride over to the falls near Ft Payne will make up for it :-)

This is the view from the Lodge at the State Park.

Hey Minimac...... If the timing works out, I'd be leaving the Sunday of the Labour Day weekend and taking 3 days to ride down arriving on the Tuesday evening. We could coordinate and meetup south of Buffalo somewhere (say around I-86 and 219), then take a leisurely 3 day ride to get down to Alabama.
