Don't sweat the small stuff...it's all small stuff

In about 4 weeks, we will become parents again.  But this time it's parents to a Boston Terrier puppy.  Here's a shot from a couple days ago.  It's a boy.  I suppose I should be sending out virtual cigars?  LOL.  He just finished a meal, so then it was nap time.  We are searching for a good name for him.  Suggestions?

I don't think he'll mind what ever you call him as long as it ain't late for lunch.

Are you sure it's a Boston Terrier and not a Sooner? Looks like a Sooner.

Congrats on the puppy.

Never heard of a sooner.  But it's definitely a Boston.

She did fine with Murphy, who we lost this winter, so she should do fine with this pup.  Sure wish we could come up with a name.  But since you asked, these pictures should give you an idea of how she is.

Cute name, but I've got a friend that I worked with that had a Boston terrier named mugsy. Hate to knowingly duplicate names.  But it's worth considering, too.  You know, it's funny, when you don't need to come up with a name, you can think of all kinds of good ones, but when you do need a name, you can't think of any.  Sort of like during the year, you can come up with all sort of great gift ideas, but when it's time to go Christmas shopping, nothing comes to mind.

Mmm, we'll keep looking.  One name that's come up is Zeke.  We're mulling that one over.  We still have a month to come up with one.

I've had 3 dogs that named themselves. A black English/Chow mix with a white ring around her neck and a white chin & chest became Suzy Q. Our little Lasa had a bark that could scare a German Shepherd hairless with a stiff legged stance to match became Spike despite the fact that he wasn't a gray bulldog. And our current animated rug came to us with the name "Haralambos" (Happy) that begged to be transmuted into "Hairy".

I'm sure little What's-his-name will let you know in good time. But, if you were to offer a new Bergman 400 to the winner of your "Name the Dog" contest it would help things along as to getting a good list of possibilities.

Well, now, that's a thought, although a rather wild one.  Now where's all that extra cash that's supposed to be laying around for just such a purpose?

It's often fun to figure out a name for a pet based on the pet itself.  In this case, the puppy had a distinctive black patch on his back that resembles an arrowhead.  Our daughter did a search and came up with the name Fletcher, of Fletch for short, based on an arrow's fletching, or the feathers that are glued to end that fits around the bowstring.  I'll try to take a pic of him this evening, as we are about to drive over to see the pups.

So we went to see the pups last evening, and they have nearly doubled in size from the last time we saw them.  Here's a shot of Fletcher/Fletch's back.  You can see the arrowhead shaped marking there, hence the name.

My son wanted to name a dog King. We ended up getting a poodle, so King was't going to be the name but we learned that Basil means kingly one, so Basil it was.

Years later we got a Dachshund. At the time we had an exchange student from Germany living with us. My daughter also loved to ride horses. The puppy had a distinctive mark on her forehead that looked exactly like a person riding a galloping horse. We settled on the name Ryder = Rider with a German flare to it.

Greg, I'm starting to see a potential problem with the name Fletch. While it is, rather, unique and does fit in well with the reference to the arrow head, I'm afraid that it just isn't going to work out...

Imagine this scenario:
It's a bright and sunny day in the the valley.
You and Fletch decide a little romp in the park would be just the thing.
As you pick up the brightly colored ball and leash the excitement mounts and
As the door opens the dogs race out the door heading for the car tales & butts awag.
At the park it's everybody out and a race to the nearest tree.
Once Nature has been satisfied, new and old acquaintances have been sniffed
The time had finally come to PLAY BALL!!!!
You cock your arm back and launch that brightly colored orb into the azure Alaska sky and call out,
"Fetch, Fletch, Fetch"!
