Check this out.  They do this every year at the Alaska State Fair here in Palmer.  What you're looking at is a picture of last year's giant pumpkin weigh off.  This one was 1469 pounds!!  These big pumpkins aren't any good for eating, and too big for a jack-O-lantern, so I think they get donated to various farmers here and get used for livestock feed.  Moose love pumpkins, by the way.  Oh, and unless you're planning to come up hereto enjoy the fair, which starts today, disregard the rest of the article.

That's huge!

These people do this every summer and spend tons of time cultivating the pumpkins. Each year the winner is bigger than the previous year's winner.  I wonder just how far it can go, as every year they try to break the previous "worlds record" for a big pumpkin.

The winning pumpkin in the KY state fair shares the seeds to anyone who sends a self addressed stamped envelope. Not sure how it started but kind of cool(while they last).
