Don't sweat the small stuff...it's all small stuff

I keep reading and hearing about how only good cameras, such as DSLR's or upper end mirrorless cameras take good images, and how some people won't even look at pictures taken with cell phones.  I happen to disagree.  I have an iPhone 6s Plus, and happen to think that it does a great job.  True enough, the only controls I have on it consist of the shutter button, but the camera does a pretty good job.  Here's a couple I've taken with the iPhone.  One is of a pansy getting ready to be transplanted to one of our back deck planters, and the other is a scenic shot taken at Portage Glacier Lake this past winter.  And the third is Grandpa with his kids.  So don't take any guff off of anyone trying to give you a hard time about taking photos with your cell phone. It may not be a $6500.00 Nikon D5,  but it holds its own.

My first camera was one of those black-box Brownies, since then I've owned a range of stuff from Kodak instamatics, Polaroids, Century Graflex, Linhof, Mamiyas, Minoltas, Nikons, and some I've forgotten. They all took pictures, stored memories, and helped recall those that are no longer with us. I've restored photos (taken with who-knows what cameras the family had) to make sure we've got a photographic record to pass down the genetic line. To be sure it's not the equipment that's important and what's being done with optics today is nothing short of magic.

So, those four shots above this post are great because they bring a smile or happy memory or, maybe, a sense of wonder at one of Nature's finer works! Kudos.

That said, the camera in my $150 cell phone exerts a negative air pressure & is about as worthless as mammary glands on a boar.

... is about as worthless as mammary glands on a boar.

Funny    I just used that phrase on another forum when speaking about the manual shifter on the Burgman 650.  But now I embarrassed because I used the wrong word for boar ... I used bore    The spell checker would not let me use "tits" ... so I had to use the official spelling "teats".   "Mammary glands" now that's impressive ... just way to technical for us hillbillies here in Tennessee    But I can use it in a sentence .... I have NEVER EVER taken pictures of mammary glands with my IPhone.

I've gotten to the point that's all I taken pictures with anymore.  If I purposely go out to shoot something I take the good camera.

Plus I like the apps to correct or enhance.

When I become Ansel Adams, I will worry about what others think about my photos.  Oh wait, even then I won't give two F's :-)

All nice pictures and memories above!

PS:  Happy Birthday, Grandpa!

I took this picture of Pete with my iPhone7 Plus rolling down the road. Then enhanced for his FB cover photo.

Despite what some self-proclaimed "experts" or serious hobbyists claim about cellphone cameras not being "real" cameras, they sure seem to take amazing images, and the technology is advancing all the time.  When it's time to upgrade my iPhone 6S Plus I will go with whatever the latest iteration is.  It's amazing what these things will do.  By the way, great shot of the rose, Maggie.

Sooooo--lets see more cellphone photos from all of you out there.

Nice pic. For me, it is kind of hard to not like a covered bridge pic. Covered bridges seem to have an aura of attraction about them.

If you're still in the area I'd suggest the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola. Admission is free & it is well worth the trip.

Expat47,

Good tip ... we woulda loved that ... but back home this Sunday morning.  Quickie trip:-(
Drove all day Wednesday ... there in Panama City Thursday-Friday ... drive all day Saturday and back to work today.:-)  In-laws are CHEAP!  But our schedule wouldn't allow for much more time anyway.

Took a couple boat rides ... dolphin and gator boats.  That air-boat was a BLAST!  Sat on baloncy and looked at the ocean.  Good trip all in all.

BTW, My second in birth order daughter is/was in Athens yesterday.

Quickies can be fun!

Well, next time you get down that way.. Then right across the Alabama border is the USS Alabama a retired WWII battle ship. We missed that one... the fog was so heavy both coming & going that we didn't even SEE it when passing.

BTW, if/when any of y'all are in Athens, GR please know we're here if you need any help or would like to get together. You can apply that appropriately to kin folk as well.

Last evening PeggySuz and I were invited over to a friend's house to enjoy the sunny evening and a glass of wine on her deck.  Carolyn lives just south of Palmer, along the Matanuska River and has a stunning view of the Chugach Mountains.  Pioneer Peak is an iconic mountain that rises to 6398 feet from sea level.  I grabbed the  iPhone and took some pics of it from her deck and thought I'd share this stunning evening view.  The time was 8:45PM!  Gotta love the extended daylight up here in the summer.

Pioneer Peak, at the wide angle setting of the iPhone 6S Plus.  Shows its overall size compared to the peaks around it.  Makes it a real standout

I like this shot from the deck.  Gives great leading lines to the peak.  In the mid area, what you see is the Matanuska riverbed.

I zoomed in a bit for this one.  Unfortunately, with the iPhone , it's all digital zoom, so the image quality suffers a bit
