We had the pleasure of seeing one of our mosey denizens as he wandered through our subdivision this morning. While not a trophy moose, that is, one for the record books, he was pretty good-sized, with about a 55" antler spread. The light wasn't very good, as it was sort of dim, no thanks to the weather, but you get the idea. He probably topped 1000 lb. He was right behind my pickup, about 50 feet away, in the street This is the best one, so you get an idea of his size and antlers

Had a female moose and calf come through our drive, twice, while on Elmendorf in the early '60s. Quite the sight no matter where you are.

Heh, Heh, I got so excited at seeing the moose that I totally forgot my new Panasonic Lumix super zoom camera. That would have gotten a better shot or two, a bit closer in zoom shot. But it was pretty cool. There's lots of moose that come down in the winter because the food is easier for them to get to, but we don't often see them on our street. The big bulls are even rarer a sight.

It always amazes me how those spindly little legs can hold up such a brawny beast
