I just agreed with a seller to buy their 2007 Piaggio X9 Evolution 500. Here's a picture taken with my iPhone when I first arrived. Should have the paperwork done by early next week.

We use to have a couple that rode with us that each had X9s.  Nice looking bikes.

I may of jinxed myself by posting a picture of the X9 and I'm wondering if this deal will move forward at all. The seller's brother has the scoot at his home as he's located in town while she is rural. The logic was that they'd get better interest and more traffic if it was located in town. Makes sense. After my viewing and test ride last week, I made an offer provided the bike passes the mandatory Ontario safety check and they provide the Ontario Used Vehicle Information Package (UVIP). They accepted.

The weekend passes and an appointment is made for the safety this morning at the local Vespa dealer where the bike originated from when new. It passed without issue. The brother calls after work today to say we're good to go, but that the ownership is still in the previous owner's name. Seems his sister bought the scoot but never registered it in her name. The scoot was last licensed in 2011.

I called the Ontario Ministry of Transport who confirmed my fears that she cannot sell (and I should not purchase) until the scoot is registered in her name. Once the registration transfer is complete, and she pays the applicable Ontario taxes, the bike is hers to legally sell. She will then need to re-purchase the UVIP as the one they bought last week does not show her as an owner.

I'm not sure what they'll do next and I wouldn't be surprised if they decided not to bother and not sell the scooter. All very disappointing.

Time to jump ship, Steve. This sounds like more trouble than it's worth.

Truly a shame Steve.  Best to run, .... run fast.  You have many more scooters listed there from which to choose.
Just wasn't meant to be?

Thanks everyone. It took over a week to close a deal, but patience paid off in the end and I think I got a deal at $2,650. The seller included the mandatory Ontario safety check certificate which helped. I'm heading out later today to transfer ownership to make it all official.

Took her on a trip to visit family for the weekend and it worked fine. Very steady at speed on the highway and only slight buffeting around my head. I might try the tall windshield position to see if that makes any difference.

Thanks everyone. I filled up after my trip and using Fuelly.com I am getting 78 mpg which really surprised me. I am getting just over 80 mpg with my BV250 so getting close to that with the X9 is amazing.

Stopped in Smiths Falls to look for a cup holder.

So I could enjoy a Timmies iced cap on the way.

Looking right some fine ; in front of two of the most Canadian icons we have, Canadian Tire and Tim Hortons
Being in Ottawa .... you need a picture in front of Parliament Hill.

Still no word from Piaggio Canada on the recall issue so I will have to keep trying. I might contact my local dealer to see of they can research from their end.

The analog gauges are really easy to see and read. What did take some getting used to, were the mirrors on the front fairing as I've been used to the type that attach to the handle bars like on my BV250.

It's been a blast riding the X9 the last year and it has been rock solid and reliable for me the whole time, but it was listed for sale early this week and sold today. The guy is coming later this evening to ride her home. I still have my BV250 so I will still have something to ride to work in the morning.
