Let's Ride!!!!!!

« on: July 04, 2013, 11:37:54 PM »

Pete had to work so Flutter and I set out for an adventure.

We parked really close to the VP Fair to get a peek at the air show.  Then we slowly worked our way back home and found some cool murals.

The air show was "ok" no real air planes of mass destruction.  Well there was a B17 but it never did a close fly over. Sat next to a cute family that kept me company.  The kid was adorable and loved the show.

One more... when I was looking at the video I saw this so i took a screen shot.

I love all the transportation in the picture.   Barges, little boatd, trucks, train, paddle wheel and the plane.

Nice collage of pictures.

Do you by chance know what the twin engine airplane doing acrobatics is.  I can't see it good enough in the video to say for sure but it looks kind of like a WWII vintage Lockheed Hudson.

Looks like it is the Beach 18. The two planes look a lot alike in profile at a distance.

But, Sky King drove a Cessna 310.  ???   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sky_King  I saw a 310 doing aerobatics in an air show once.  They made a big deal about it being the Sky King plane - that was back when someone would remember what that meant

The plane I remember Sky King in from when I watched it as a kid was the Cessna T-50.  I probably watched episodes when he was flying the 310 but for some reason the old T-50 is the one I always associate him with.

Ha!!!  I guess I never saw the older one, the ones I saw were all the 310.  Even the ones I saw were re-runs by time I saw them - not that I'm that young, it's that I grew up in (father-imposed) poverty and we didn't have TV

Must have been the T-50 that my memory confused with the Super 18...
that's over 55 years ago...for a TV program that was only on
for 2 or 3 years.....sure stirring the old cob webs.....

Just googled "Sky King," and the T50 was indeed, the first plane used in the series, which, according to several articles I read, ran from 1951 to 1962.  The second was the Cessna 310.

I always enjoy an air show, but getting in the venue can be quite an effort. North of Harrisburg one day, a B17 flew over low and fast one day, leaving an air show someplace in central PA. You're right about the "real air planes of mass destruction" bringing something extra to an air show with their size and power. Love the pictures!

Loved the photos, Maggie.  This is one of my favorites.  You had it in your Bet and Win video too.

I always enjoy an air show, but getting in the venue can be quite an effort.

Sometimes sitting just outside the venue of an airshow(for free)
& listening to the radio frequency of the Air Boss...the air-traffic controller
coordinating the air show...is as entertaining as being on the grounds...
except you don't get to see all the planes in the static display. And you
have to give up all that walking, & being on your feet all day.
