I have a BMW C650GT. Purchased last November, and have 3,500 on it. No real problems with it just a few oil leaks that the dealer took care of.

I guess that makes two of us on this forum. I should have mentioned that I too have the C 650 GT. I also bought mine back in November but because of the weather I just turned 800 miles. I'm going to do my own oil change and I have ordered the front oil strainer from my BMW dealer. I thought it was strange that I am the first to order the front oil strainer, their own shop has not ordered any yet? Suppose to be required at the first oil change.

Howdy. Another BMW scooter here. You can see me zipping around the DC area on my black C650GT. Picked it up February 14, 2013 and traveled over 2,000 miles—mostly city/commuting miles—so far. I have some longer trips planned for the summer, upstate NY in later this month and Ohio in July. Depending on how those go, I may plan a trip west to visit my home state of Colorado.

As far as problems go. I haven't had any until today when my turn signals were acting wonky but I attribute that to the torrential rain we've had. Everything should dry out today and I'll see how they work on my commute home.

Totally off topic but I had the exact same problem with my '08 Burgman 650 for the same reason-too much rain so I just sprayed some Fluid Film in the indicator and it was as good as new. I'm sure WD-40 would work just as well.

A happy C600 Sport owner over here
I've had my clutch assembly replaced once under warranty after it began shuddering.
I got some useful feedback around this on http://www.bmw-scooters.com/forum/main-lobby-new-member-section/346-hey-everybody-im-new-around-here.html

My riding buddy has a GT. Nice Bike. He had the dealership high milage record, 12k miles in six months, until he was in an accident and the insurance company totaled the bike. He just picked up the 2014 to replace it.

We tease him, he only had the accident so he wouldn't have to go through the first belt replacement.  Just get a new bike. Lol

We affectionately call him "Scooter Slut" because he rides with anyone anywhere, no questions asked. He just loves to ride. Half the time he doesn't even know where the group is going and often double books rides on the same day.  So he rakes up a lot of miles.  The BMW fits him perfectly.

Guys it didn't take BMW long to revitalise the scooter - anyone out there have the second generation more sophisticated ride - looks so much better than the original effort

My buddy has had two 650s. One was in an accident after I think 20k and the second has 30k. He rides the piss out of them. He even did an 1k iron butt ride in one day. Dealer says He's got the high mileage bike in our area. Not without problems though. But BMW is kind enough to give him a loaner, which he also rides the piss out of. Lol.

Beautiful bike! If I could afford a second scooter I'd be tempted to get a BMW.

How much is maintenance on the bikes? On a practical level?

My buddy spends inordinate amounts on his, more than I spent on the purchase of my used Burgman 650. Of course it's all dealer done, replete with loaner bike. Very nice service, to be sure. But I've no idea what more practical people spend.

Btw, I've ridden both BMWs and they're great bikes. Just not sure I could afford the upkeep.

Not sure yet, but I have 2 years of warranty left. I've heard the horror stories of it being high, but many have said its on the same level of other motorcycles. Newer design and more technology that my old Silverwing and not the YouTube videos and info out there yet on doing maintenance and repairs on own. Generally speaking, from my automotive background, German engineered vehicles tend to be a bit more expensive to repair/maintain.  I guess time will tell. That was one of the cons when making the decision, but there were mainly more pros in my deciding to switch from a Silverwing and especially after the test ride and now riding it for a week.

We just had a club member get rid of his because of dealer maintenance cost.

Yes, that's what I thought and one of the reasons I got the Burgman. There's really not much maintenance on it; just Oil, filters & rubber, pretty much. Brakes & coolant occasionally. Most of which I can do myself, thanks to lots of videos to show you how and an excellent support forum.

I rode the new sport BMW this past weekend though (yet another loaner to my friend). I must admit, it was a very nice bike, sat a little tall, but well balanced, quick and fast steering. But I'm happy with my burg. Felt like home when I jumped back on her.
