Thanks, all!

Yeah, it was so sad but at the same time the ironic things are those were storm clouds.  They just fall apart as they hit St. Louis and the energy falls apart.  45 minutes south they had 2.5" of rain last night.

Yesterday we FINALLY got a steady rain for about a 4 hours.  Pete and I took a ride back down to the Meramec to see if the river had come up any...Nope.

However there was some new debris in the river bed

We watched as Dad #1 came to the rescue in his new bright red truck.  No go.  We left and rode to Cliff Cave to see the Mississippi River level.  Stayed about an hour hanging out as it was really nice near the river.  Afterwards we went back to see if the tiny Jeep was out of the mud.  Nope.

Dad #2 and no go.  When we left we heard it is time to hire a professional

The Mississippi River is down low as well.  Barge traffic is backing up.  Barges through Port St. Louis are limited to one way traffic only.

Thanks, Dan.

It's been rough not getting out and riding for fun this year. Yesterday we were all set to ride with the club and we got rain.  The rain was much more important than the ride.

I haven't been riding much either.  Plan to change that for the second half of the summer and autumn.  Hope you get more rain and some fun rides too.

I went back this morning, he got out.  Good thing he was right at a confluence with a small tributary.  It was running pretty good this morning filling the area he was in..

Hopefully the recent rains you folks have had will help.  It usually takes a while for all the runoff to make it to the rivers though.  Of course a lot of it is just going to go into the ground and will never make it there.

Around here we just ride anyway because it gets hot here every summer so what else can we do  .  The high pressure that has been sitting over the Midwest has moved down on top of us now.  We're looking at a string of 100+ days for at least a week

Yeah we are back to our 100's the next few days.  We were going to ride heat be damned Sunday but the rain took that away.

I don't mind riding in the rain but the safety concern was no rain in along time on roads (mainly farming roads) would probably be a slicker ride than normal.

Oh well I have my work rides this week.  Hopefully Saturday and Sunday we get to ride somewhere!

Well what has an effect on one, has and effect on others. Zen like sayings aside, we were in the St. Louis environs the last week of this past June and we learned why the chain of rocks is called just that

The bridge is one of our must stops while in the area and we have never seen the water this low from this vantage point

And just this morning we read of houses in Missouri with cracking foundations due to the drought. Maybe Issac will provide some relief, maybe not too late.

No more drought... As of today I could not stand from where I took these shots a few days ago.

Today on the Mississippi river, 114 barges broke loose and 4 slammed into the JB Bridge, 9 coal barges sank.  11 are unaccounted for.

Hell hath no fury like a swollen river.  Natures loves to show who really is control.

Pete and I walked under the bridge last summer...

With all the snow & rain we've had this winter, The Mississippi should be good for a while.

Just the other day I was thinking about the river coming up with all the snowmelt that should be coming down soon.

(About the barges) You just can't mess with the Mighty Mississippi.
