Thanks guys, I shot that Van picture with the framing in mind.  I saw the old dead tree and when I walked around to the side of it I noticed it formed kind of a picture frame for the tree behind it.

I took that last picture and cropped it down some then played with the brightness and contrast to get it to look more like what I was seeing when I looked up into the trees.  The leaves were just glowing like they were lighted internally.

Sorry to be late to this party but a (daughter's) wedding (prep & recovery) and the holiday sort of kept me busy.  The tree in our front yard was pretty spectacular this year.  First really caught my eye with the window view (my PC seat is right next to it) which prompted me to make some time and take it in.  It's amazing how it changes color as the (sun's) lighting changes.

Scarlet Oak.  Actually I was sort of disappointed in it the first 10-15 years after planting (by then it was probably 20-25) but thereafter it really started to show its stuff.  I don't know if that's normal for the species, a function, of weather, changes in the soil (heavy red clay hereabouts but I did start heavily mulching under it) ... but for whatever reason it's really done well the past 10 years or so.  Of course, some years better than others, but this was good one.

Figured it was some kind of oak by the look of the leaves.  The color looks a lot like what we get on the Texas red oaks around here but the leaf is shaped different.

Oops, I lied (unintentionally) ... it's a Scarlet Maple

(I'd just typed my daughter's address and she lives on Scarlet Oak - copy and paste errors apparently occur in one's brain as well as on computers).  It dawned on me when I Googled it and started reading about scarlet oak acorns.  No acorns here.  This dear tree sends out thousands of seeding helicopters in the spring.

Funny thing, when that first came in I could only see one shot.  All are there now and I like the out-the-window shot too.

Yes, Craig, they are crepe myrtles. The blvd has those center islands and there are crepe myrtles at the end of each one.  They are a great contrast to the trees planted in the rest of the island.

That's a nice windy stretch.  I remember passing by all the golf carts when we went through there.

Don't think I'll try navigating the motor home down that road.

Stu, homeowners who have up to 43' motorhomes drive down that blvd.  That's the way to the storage lot.  They keep the trees trimmed back enough that you'd have no problem.
