I'm tall and would not mind an extra inch or two of room on my Burgman 650 Exec.  So how do you remove the adjustable butt bumper?

Open the seat and look up under the bottom, you will find two small holes that you can see the metal rods that support the backrest through.  Pull the release that allows the backrest to adjust and move it back and forth while you look up through those holes.  At some point along the travel you will see a small screw that is inserted into the rods.  Those screws are stops that keep the backrest from coming completely out when you pull it forward.  If you remove them then you can pull the release and slide the backrest forward untill it comes out.

Now some cautions.  Those screws are hard to get out.  You need a small philips screwdriver that fits them tightly or you will strip the centers out.  When you put the screw driver in a couple of raps with a hammer on the end of it can help loosen the screws.  If you have an impact driver that works even better.  If you still strip the heads then just take a drill and cut the heads off.  You don't really need the screws anyway.

Thanks guys.  I'm thinking I'll be heading for the dealer shop soon for the 600 mile fluid exchange and I will just have it removed by highly trained professionals.  A little extra leg room would be welcome.

When it is removed you will have a couple of holes showing through the seat.  They don't really hurt anything but you can find plastic plugs at hardware stores to cover them up.

A better option is to get one of Bearcat's Isuzu back rest conversions.  It fits right in where the buttstop was and gives you a true back rest.  Info on it can be found here http://burgmanusa.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=37500&hilit=back+rest

My suggestion? Check out Spencer's seats. he is very fast ( less than a week) tell him you height and have him cut the foam and add the LD rider material. He uses the seat pan and seat material ad adjusts it. It is very cheap ( around $50.00) and makes a world of difference. I spent almost $400.00 for a custom seat before and the $50.00 spencer conversion was better

+1 on Bearcat's backrests.  They have received great reviews and look nice.

I just had the dealer remove the butt bumper today when the scoot was in for it's 600 mile service.  Man, that made all the difference in the world for me for leg room.

I put on a backrest from http://www.bestbackrests.com/ (don't know if this is the same guy mentioned above) and I have to say that the backrest makes for an amazingly comfortable ride.  It is like being in a recliner.  It is amazing what a little back support will do.  I know I will really appreciate it when touring.

Thanks for the advice and suggestions.

The best backrest people took Bearcat's idea and commercialized it so it's not from the same guy but what you got is basically the same thing.  Bearcat also makes the conversions and sells them basically at his cost for materials and shipping.
