Frothy Rant On!

I'm annoyed with helmet manufacturers and helmet sellers.  Many just describe their helmets as "White" - but they are not "White" - they are: metallic white, pearl white, or some variation thereof.  Some manufacturers tell you straight up a helmet is "gloss white", and I give them credit.  But then there are the scurvy dogs that just say "white" and leave you squinting at some picture online trying to figure if it is metallic, pearl or some other interloper or real "gloss" white or some darn newfangled kind of white nobody has ever heard of.  And then sometimes they throw in the word "solid" but that seems to have nothing to do with the flakiness of the white in question.

A few years ago, you could hardly find any sort of white helmet to save your life, all they made were funeral colors, so I guess I should be grateful for any kind of white at all but is a clear description too much to ask for?

/Frothy Rant Off

(And don't even get me started on the Fantasy Helmet Size Charts these people use!)

There, I feel better now.

So Brad I'm guessing you are trying to match the white of the new Burgman?  It's a bright gloss white correct?  I believe HJC sells some helmets like that.

Well the white on the Burgman isn't exactly white either, it has a pearl element to it

We need eskimos to define the color white (don't they have a hundred words for "snow?") I bought two white helmets (different brands) and they are different.

The Burgman is pearl white which is - okay.  I've never, personally, been big on pearl white for my helmets.  I prefer good old circa 1967 "Bell" gloss white.  Trouble is finding it.

The Vega Summit II I ordered said "white" but was really a pearl white (very nicely done I might add).  I'll keep it just in case.

I tried a HJC SyMax II which was real gloss white but my chin was brushing the inside of the chin guard.  Had to return it and that cost a bit in postage.

I've decided I need to try a Shoei on in person so I'm hitting the MC shops to see if I can.  Shoei's are expensive to me and I want ot try one on first. I hope they really do have gloss white.

The Nolan N102 can be had in a gloss white but they are getting harder to find.

I think the white on the newer Nolan N103 is a pearl white, I'll double check with someone that has one and see.

Brad

Are you looking online or at MC shops?  Sometimes you will find good deals at the liquidations stores.  Found a place here in town that had modular helmets for $119 Cdn = not sure if he had white though

I was looking online and for modular, since I wear glasses.  I'm now going to see what I can find locally. I'm not going to buy a $400 helmet without trying it on first.

The two best looking helmets (strictly IMHO) are the Scorpion and the Shoei Modulars, but I need to confirm fit and color first.

I like the Nolans, but I have always heard (Webbikeworld reviews) that Nolan's tend to fit better for people with round heads and I think I have non-round head.

Tomorrow I hit 3 MC shops and on Wal-mart to at least try different modular helmet models on.

I had a HJC CL Max before the Nolan and the Nolan seems to fit about like the HJC did.

The newer N103 has the same problem your SyMax II had, the chin guard is close to your chin.  The N102 is not like that.  Robin got a new N103 and it bothered her so she has gone back to a N102.

I hit 4 local motorcycle shops yesterday. None had a huge selection of modulars, they must not be that popular.

One shop had Fulmer, but had just sold the last modular.  Two stocked Vega Summit II's (which I already own) only as their modular's. The forth had HJC but no modulars in stock.

I'll check further afield later, no hurry.

Colours.  I've had three helmets of varying colours, but no matter what the base helmet colour was, I plastered them all with hi-viz reflective tape.

I remember my ex-son-in-law who was a trial lawyer in Beverly Hills California.  Speaking with him for more than ten minutes and you'd think that white was a very light shade of black and black was a very dark shade of white.
