This is becoming the strangest riding season, in this area, I can remember. Fortunately, the usual spring carnage never happened and the summer has been comparatively calm but as we approach the end of summer, when accident rates are usually lower, the world is coming unglued. On 'The Dragon', the first reported death of the year, a highly skilled local, last weekend. There have been two deaths in separate head on crashes with cars crossing the center line; one found crashed & deceased at daylight on a major highway over the last few days. Three people from work involved in crashes since last Thursday, one on the way to take his driving test, another hit by a car spent 6 hours in surgery yesterday repairing a crushed hip, his wife was released from hospital, returned spitting up blood, broken rib punctured lung. At any rate, it hasn't been a good couple of weeks around here, like fate is attempting to catch up before the summer is over.

I'll possibly cross pathes with them, if they are there during the weekend.

Its been too hot for me to ride this summer, maybe there are fewer riders out there till now. I hate that I haven't been scootin for two months. I work all day in 110 deg. in a paint booth. Last thing I want to do is ride home while suffering heat exhaustion. Soon I'll be dodging deer in rut.

This is becoming the strangest riding season, in this area, I can remember. Around here too. There have been at least 7 fatal accidents involving MC's on our Island Highways. Majority were MC's running into vehicles who made rapid lane changes without signalling or cut off the MC with the "I didn't see him/her" pitiful excuse. My wife was in Hospital in Victoria for two days having minor surgery, she was talking to the guy in the next bed in the pre-op ward. He was a rider, and his accident happened here in Duncan. He was cut off by a woman driver not signalling her lane change and down he went. Broken hip, broken arm and lacerations. He said that the woman driver stopped, came over to look at him and then drove off. He remembered her license plate number and gave it to the RCMP. She was later apprehended and is facing some serious charges. Her excuse " Oh, I didn't see him". When asked why she didn't stop and offer assistance. Her excuse, "Oh, he looked ok". __________ Dick

RI has been relatively free from motorcycle accidents this year. It has been the warmest summer on record so maybe fewer people are riding
