Rollin', Rollin', Rollin'

« on: May 10, 2012, 03:37:48 PM »

I was taking some photos of my bike's brake pedal for a tech question while doing so had I taken this extra photo.  I liked the way it turned out, especially given that it was shot in the garage with only fluorescent light.  A little PS helps too.

Guess it's just as well, photos don't have smell.
Nice one Dan and before digital very few good prints made it through the lab without a bit of dodging, burning, reducing or extending length of time in solutions. Plus PS or BS is a lot less smelly and not so much of a threat to health.

Sometimes I adjust the contrast to bring
out details in the shadows if it's too
dark.  Your eye can do that so I don't
think it is necessarily a bad thing.

This shot goes to what someone said
in another topic about the best pics
coming from when you drill down for
closer views.  (OTOH, you do need
a few wide shots for perspective.)

Another thing I notice here is that
when you're in close like this you
see little 'imperfections that give
the subject more character.  Like
well-earned lines in a weathered
face, the little casting irregularities,
corrosion and wear marks attest
to a lifetime of service.

I was so happy when one of my Harley
friends finally fell over and scratched
his precious machine.  After the hand
wringing was over, now he can actually
go out and enjoy riding instead of
obsessing over every little bug or
stone chip.

Here's a shot to go with yours:

One of two identical engines on the famous
"Sea Screamer."  Captain Andy took us below
for a close look at the engines that whisk the
giant speedboat out into the Gulf.  Way cool.
