Top bird is a male cardinal.  I use a 75-300mm AF Nikkor lens on a Nikon D50 DSLR.

But patience is the key.  Photos have not been cropped or PhotoShopped.

when I lived in Woodstock the cardinals would wake you up around 5 a.m. with their mating calls, a very distinctive call
