I goofed up pretty good today on my weather predicting. So tonight after work I got to ride home in a light rain. When it wasn't raining, the roads were still quite wet and some puddles had formed.
So what did I learn? BV250s are pretty sure footed in the rain. Not that I wanted to learn this so soon with a new ride but I do know. Took it easy on the turns and throttle all the way and the BV handled it all without a problem.

Most folks underestimate how much traction they have on wet roads. Unless you hit a spot where oil is mixed with the water or go over metal or wide paint strips or tar strips you have about 90% of the traction that you do on a dry road. You don't need to fear riding a bike on wet roads. Dial it back a little and be even more vigilant to watch for those things that can make the road slick when combined with water and you will be just fine.

With only two contact patches smaller than a cell phone beneath me, I confess to being very nervous corning in the rain or soon after it has rained. I have ridden through thunderstorms and even tried to ride on snow-covered road. But, it freaks me out. My problem is not limited to twisties and intersections because I went down on a wet slippery interstate at a treacherous lane shift situation. My problem does not arise from scooters, but from high-torque liter bikes. I was trying to ride a Honda VF1100 Sabre in West Virginia mountains and felt the rear end go squirrelly with every shift. I was soooo glad when the rain passed and the roads dried.

I've felt squirrelly in the rain lots of times, but I agree with Buffalo that you do have most of your traction. I think that if you keep your speed cautious and feelings in check things work out fine. Snow is a different story. I just won't ride in it period. I once spent two days holed up in a hotel in Colorado waiting for the roads to be cleared of snow. My mind was made up that if I had to I'd hire a truck to take me past the snow.
