Sorry to hear about your Dad, RIP!

Bummer re your ticket on Hwy 79.. they always sit out there.  They sit out there because they know you are leaving fun twisties and hitting cornfield row into St. Louis.  *Bam*  I can picture the exact spot where I bet he nailed you.

Very sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. You were a good son, checking on and caring for your Father.

Hey Norm what about doing a track day. Here is a list in Fla.
http://trackdayleathers.com/trackdays/modules/wflinks/viewcat.php?cid=11

Hey Norm maybe you could trade for some of these twisties for drifting. You'll love the end of the video.

I'm very sorry about your dad Gurock. But like it was said above, you were a great son to do everything you could for him while he was alive. He'll live on in your heart.
Yea, it's just a matter of time before I find the twisities again, by trip or trackday.

Pete, great film. I spent the day looking for the carwash where that woman is at but so far I could only find a lot of Mexican men at those things...Just to be clear, I got nothing against Mexicans.

Gurock, I am sorry for your loss.
That's one way to heat up your tires.
When I was young, and immortal, I was stopped... well that's not really true, I pulled over and waited until the state trooper caught up to me for doing what I figure to be 165 on the expressway, she was very nice and asked me if I knew how fast I was going because she did not. I told her and I am fairly sure she did not believe me because I was let off with a warning. In those days I worked at a speed shop, burned race fuel, and had my car tweaked by one of the mechanics that was responsible for testing the first hemmi engines, worked for a NASCAR driver #43 and was part of the first oil rating system. Now I have found I don't need to go that fast to have fun and, 2 wheels are better

Yeah, 165 is quite impressive.  I've never managed more than 135.

This will sound silly when you read it but I bet I have never done more than 95-100mph in a car but I will not think twice to do 120mph on a bike.

That was some impressive riding on the track.  Sure shredded up a set of new tires.  And I've never run across a car wash like that!!

Thanks all for the wishes regarding my dad.  It's been hard, but no matter what life goes on.  I think that I've done all that I could for my dad, but it's still been hard.

About the rest, I think that I did 140 MPH on the speedometer in a friends 1968 customized Camero for a minute and 120 MPH on the speedometer in a 1968 Mercury Cougar for almost a hundred miles while I was drinking, but both were over thirty years ago.  On my FJR I did about 135 MPH on the speedometer and got worried so I wouldn't try to push for more.

Also about 1/2 mile down the street from my house a guy had opened a bikini car wash a number of years ago.  I never went and checked it out becuase my ex-wife would have gone nuts if I'd checked it out.  The City authorities closed them down within a year of their opening.

Norm, the first thing my MSR instructors said was.."anybody can go fast in a straight line" theres a lot more to know than that..I know your a rider, I dont care much about speed, well, unless Im in the Miata...but I will rocket the swing up to 90 on the interstate without a problem..if I make it down there I will probably be on it..Gurock, sorry to hear of your dad, I lost mine a year and a half ago..Rog

Norm, the first thing my MSR instructors said was.."anybody can go fast in a straight line".....

And his point is what? 'fun' has to be difficult to be experienced?

Sometimes it's the easy things that are the most enjoyable, the fact that it's 'easy' doesn't lessen the pleasure and thrill of sheer speed in a straight line one bit.

MSR instructors can bite me. Somehow, I've managed to get along without their sage wisdom and guidance for four and a half decades.

Nah, I hadn't had my coffee yet though.....even if it's only decaf these days, amazingly, the soothing effects are the same.

I'm better now.

I'm still working on my first cup of coffee this morning, so thing are still a bit foggy until everything gets fully recharged.

The fastest I've gone is 140 mph (on a certified speedometer) while attempting to chase down a speed demon one day.  The patrol car, a Plymouth Fury, was starting to feel a bit vague at that speed.

For me, there's nothing more enjoyable on a motorcycle than attacking a good set of twisties, but I have discovered that straighter, even plain straight roads can be very enjoyable when riding a cruiser.  In fact, we have found that riding the Vulcans has changed our riding style.  Now we tend to throttle it back a bit and spend more time "smelling the roses," if you will.  Still, I don't mind the occasional burst os speed.  Never too old for that.  In fact, "age" simply disappears when I get on the motorcycle. Sort of a two wheeled Fountain of Youth.

There is something extrordinarily beautiful and harmonious about leaning a bike into a corner, giving it a bit of throttle, feeling the rear wheel grab the pavement and push the bike back upright just in time to swoop into the next curve....   it is a Zen thing...

Poetic!

But not if the bike is a V-Star 1100, or any other ill-handling, floorboard-scraping, hinge-in-the-middle, two-wheeled rolling pooty-pile with bad tires and worn-out suspension.
