Hi all.  I used to ride a Swing in Georgia. Now I'm in SoCal and getting the urge to ride again. Any maxi-scoot riders in Inland Empire or northern S.D. County? I don't have a bike yet. Does anyone have words of wisdom about the riding experience between a Silverwing, a Honda Shadow 750, or VStar 650? I really enjoyed the fast acceleration of the Swing but the low seat height of the MC's is very appealing. The Swing is the only bike I've ever ridden outside MSF basic riding course.
Thanks!

Welcome.  Sorry, am on the opposite coast and only ridden a Burgman 400.  However, there are others who will be able to compare the rides.  Good luck in your search.

Hello, from from the South Bay. I wouldn't choose a cruiser over a S'wing. I have scooters, a standard and a cruiser. What sort of riding do you plan you do?

Thanks for the welcome, everyone.

Burgi, I've never been on a cruiser. I would really appreciate your feedback. Can you elaborate? I don't plan on any freeway riding or commuting, just trips on secondary roads like to Idyllwild, Palomar, beaches etc.

Cruisers aren't nearly as nimble and don't accelerate like your S'wing. If you would have said I plan to commute on the freeway I would be more likely to say get the cruiser, they like to go in a straight line. If you want a motorcycle I would say consider a standard, it will be more fun on the twisty rides you talking about.
I also find the width of cruisers to be a hinderance. My Burgman is bad but my husband's cruiser is worse. You may think you will never filter or split but one day you'll find yourself roasting in traffic waiting for the car behind you to run up your tail and the concept is going to get real appealing.
Another consideration, do you want to keep pulling a clutch in SoCal traffic?

Welcome to the group.  I've ridden motorcycles most of my life and scooters the last few years.  A few things to consider, the scooters offer rain protection, motorcycles do not.  When its cold outside that faring on the scoot is a real nice thing, you get blasted with cold air on a motorcycle.  Hot days, on a scooter your motor is under plastic, you don't feel the heat, this is a really big plus, on a motorcycle you have no protection from that heat, just a nut-roaster sitting right between your legs.  Shifting, shifting can be fun but in traffic its a pain in the butt, also on takeoff most scooters will walk away from the cruisers without any trouble.  When you find yourself in a situation where you need a quick getaway the S'wing is the way to go.  I ride a Yamaha Majesty and it suits me just fine, I've ridden Burgman 650's & 400's, and I prefer my Majesty.  The difference between the 400's is minimal, the 650 is nice, bulky and heavy but comfortable.  If I were going to upgrade it would be to a S'wing.  Lighter than the Burgie, more responsive, great handling and I'd take a Honda over a Suzuki anyday.  In addition to my Majesty I also have a 1988 Honda 250 Elite and for around town this bike is a blast!

Thank you ScooterBob69 and RoboScoot. ScooterBob69, those are very good points - just the type of information I was hoping to get. The first thing I'm going to do is have another go-around with MSF B.R.C. - probably this week-end if I can get in.

You're very welcome.  Hope you make the right choice for your needs.  I don't think that I'd ever go back to regular motorcycles.

I'm going to be looking at a 2005 Silverwing with 4500 miles. Seller's asking $3300 which is below KBB. What kind of things should I be looking for? TIA.
