I've never ridden this scooter (nor any Vespa) but I can't help but notice it's pricetag. According to my 2010 Guidebook this scoot listed for $6899 which I find remarkable. That makes this Vespa 250 more expensive than the Yamaha Majesty, Suzuki Burgman 400, Aprilia Scarabeo 500, Kymco Xciting 500, and Piaggio BV Tourer 500. In fact, the Vespa GTV 250 is even more expensive than Vespa's own GTS 300 which obviously has a bigger engine, and isn't exactly cheap. If I had 5-7 grand to spend on a new scooter I wouldn't even consider a 250, regardless of the maker.

What gives with the GTV 250?

Honda had the same problem with it's 250cc scooters.  The last few years of the Reflex and Big Ruckus the price was equivalent of a Yamaha Majesty and a Suzuki Burgman 400.  Guess which bikes are still being sold here.  The advantage Vespa has is brand, just like HD people who want a Vespa will not settle for a substitute.

yes dan nailed it.....i have a friend....not close but closer than a mere acquaintance.....he is very wealthy...owned a bus company and a few restaurants....he is a diabetic and experienced a burs ted blood vessel which cost him the loss of his vision in one eye.....he had a hd...spent about 25k for it....and could not ride it......had another operation and after five months.....his vision is coming back and of course is thinking about riding again......i should note that he was born in italy...in a province called barri...and he also has a restaurant there ....run by his family......and of course travels to italy quite often...

to suggest to him that he might want to investigate other brands.....would be a complete waste of time on my part(ESPECIALLY SINCE HE CAN EASILY AFFORD IT) ....as he now wants to buy a scooter....i don't know what he plans on doing with the hd....but i agreed to go with him to the local vespa dealer.....well at least i will have a local riding partner for the summer.....

^Tell him to get the GTS300. Cheaper than the 250 and faster!
