I'll show you mine, I would love to see your fall colors

Went to a place called 'Max Patch', Pisgah National Forest, NC, today. A couple hours of gravel road and a bit of walking uphill, the color begins.

As dry as it's been around here this year I doubt we will have much color.  I suspect the trees will just go directly to brown.  I'll just have to enjoy your pictures.

Awesome, Phil!  Nothing yet here.  *maybe* soon but we are looking at not much color due to our heat wave in August/September.

Very, very nice Phil.  I really like that last shot.  Did you alter it in a photo software program?  You have more color by you than we do here in the northeast, everything is still mostly green but I can start to see some color changes.

Thank Dan! Concerning that last picture, the wind was blowing 15-20mph, though temperature was in the low 40s, a very bright sun. I  had the camera on a tripod lowered to the level of the grass, trying to get the mountains in the distance from behind the grass. Either the forground was too dark or the sky was washed out. I wanted the golden color of the grass, blue sky, mountains and slow enough shutter to blur the grass top from wind movement.  With camera on shutter priority, lens on smallest opening, F22, starting at 1/16 second increasing shutter speed 1 click with each picture, up through 1/100 second, the first few were completely washed out. When I get around to it I'll blend from 1/40 to 1/100 into a HDR photo but that photo is 1/40 second, all I did was add a bunch of exposure (shadow) in software (Picasa).

Thanks for the detailed info Phil, really nice pure shot, one of my favorites.

Techno question, when blending photos for an HDR image similar to yours won't the different frames create problems with all the grass being blown around from the wind in the consecutive images?

Yes, it could be a problem but in this case it's exactly what I'm trying to get, some indication of wind blowing the grass, similar to how using a slow shutter speed to photograph a waterfall or mountain stream blurs the water and adds a sense of movement to the picture.

We've had so much rain this year that everything around here is still green, and it's October.

Nature is about six weeks late.

I'll post pics when the colours change.

I should probably add, photos are from approximately 5,000' and higher, lower elevations are a few weeks behind but we should be on track for a good year.

Fabulous shot Phil!

Like Dan reports we have been a little slow on the color change here, but the next few weeks should be spectacular.

It will be another month at least before we will get much color around here but I did spot this tree doing an early change today.  It was taken on a county road just outside Hawkins Tx.  I suspect it is changing because it is needs to drop its leaves to survive the drought and not because it is fall.

A little more fall color but not our normal brilliant colors.  Not getting the reds and oranges as we normally do.

This morning it is 43 with 38 wind chill... just 2 months ago i was riding home in 111 heat index wishing for this this.  Now I have it!  I see a big bike ride to work day!

Very nice photo Maggie.  Makes me want to go out for a hike today.  The photo reminds me of a few years ago when Serena and I took a trip to the Lake of the Ozarks, I think we went south and found a state park with an abandoned mansion.  The surrounding land was beautiful with overlooks, rivers and winding paths through the woods.

No that is the actual name, I presume that is where you and Serena went...

A friend of ours has a ride down there this coming weekend but we are sadly unable to attend the ride :(

A bit of late fall color still around and other fall stuff.
