While playing tag on another forum, I found there are several Shoe Trees around the world. Many of us call them The Tree of Soles as a take off from:
I went to get the tag on my CTX (which I sold when I got my XCT 400i):

I was planning a ride back to get this photo again with my scooters and did a search and found this: http://www.waymarking.com/cat/details.aspx?f=1&guid=faa6261f-9557-4b7a-8eb4-09575a63eb7d
Share your trip to The Tree of Soles if it have one or can go get it....

2 years ago when we made a trip west wife and I rode to a place in California where there is a shoe fence. We took pictures but can't locate them now but the link below is a utube of the fence. Worth seeing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdYcKEwm-Z0

The trees and fences over here are pretty soleless.

Not a very good picture but this is a tree on the top of Blood Mountain in North Georgia that is full of old hiking boots. The AT runs right by here. I think these boots were supposed to have done a certain number of miles hiking the AT. Probably some of you have been in this spot. This pic was taken years ago. Not sure the boots are still there.

Reminds me of the tree of shame at Deals Gap. I never take a picture of the tree because I felt karma would get me.

I read if you want to pick up cool hiking camping gear a good place to go is about 2-5 miles in at either starting point of the trail. After about 2-5 miles people realize they over packed and start dumping things, LOL!

After about 2-5 miles people realize they over packed and start dumping things, LOL! The South end of the AT starts at Springer Mountain. The start is off a dirt forest service road miles from anywhere. Then there is nothing but forest and hills for about 25 miles until it gets to Woody Gap which is a few miles from Suches and the Two Wheels of Suches motorcycle resort. Why do I know this? Because I have an interesting story. Back in 1994 I stayed at Two Wheels Only. I met a couple of ladies who had decided to hike the AT. They started at Springer mountain and it took them three days to hike to Woody Gap. They had no idea the trail was so steep and rugged. So they hitched a ride down to TWO and where staying there waiting for one of their sons to bring them a car. They decided it would be better to just drive and hike selected parts of the AT. I'm not sure of their age but I'll let you guess. I have found that I meet all kinds of interesting people when I'm out riding.

There were few trees on a local park road that various high schools "claimed" years ago (one per school) and the kids toss their sneakers there. Supposedly started when high school cross country meets were held there and runners would toss their shoes after the last run of the season. Haven't been down that road lately but I think park management complained to the schools and it was largely shut down.
