Hello everyone,
Been a while since I’ve posted to this site. I just recently got a Kymco AK 550, and I’m preparing for a trip to New Hampshire from the Philadelphia area. I have an expandable top case (Shad S58x) where I plan to store items such as my computer bag and other equipment I use for motovlogging. However, I’m considering getting a tank bag as well where I can keep my laptop and other items such as maps, receipts, etc. …
Does anyone have a suggestion for a good tank bag that would fit in the front nook of the AK 550?
Thanks,
- Wolf

AH! you mean tunnel bag as they are somewhat more commonly called. Since they fit in the step through tunnel.
There are a few tunnel bags that will fit. Most are about 16 L which may be too small for a laptop. Shad has one that is 25 L, SC25, that is supposed to fit the AK 550. Then there is the Givi EA105b that other AK owners now have and a knock off that looks just like it for a little less $$$. And the Givi EA122 which is a 23 L bag. It would likely fit rather tightly in the step through tunnel but will fit and holds a lot. Currently I use a 20 L dry bag from Walmart when I travel LD. I've decided there is no need to strap it down since it fits snugly in place and my legs on either side hold it centered very well regardless if my feet are down or forward. Never had an issue with that on my 1374 mile trip that I returned from last weekend. And I've had my eye on both the Shad 25 L and the Givi 23 L. The Givi bags, and knock off Givi, come with a rain cover. Don't know about the Shad bag.

Wolf, GIVI has made a number of different models over the years including the GIVI T444 which might work. Also, there used to be a fella who made tunnel bags tailored to fit different scooters. I have one of his for our SWing and Burgman 400 and both are fabricated differently. Unfortunately there are no tags or identifiers on his bags and I can't remember his name etc. Perhaps if you visit burgmanusa.com someone there might know. Also, I doubt you'll find one large enough to carry a laptop ... and I don't think I would do that anyway in that location. Here's another provider: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiqaZrsRiXUGood Luck and let us know how things turn out for you. ~ BugJr ~

Thanks rj8987 and Sonuvabug, especially on the correct term -- tunnel bag. That will make Google searches better. Essentially I need a bag with a transparent pocket on the top for the placement of maps or directions. I don't use cellphones (other than a Tracfone for emergencies), so I like to ride without a gps, or other direction. apps. If there is one large enough to place my laptop in it that will work too, as I'm not comfortable with leaving it under the seat when I'm riding, or in the top case if I'm parked for long.

Hmmm…you plan on putting a computer bag in the top case and also have a laptop? What is in the computer bag? I needed to transport my laptop for work and used a laptop bag that I placed in the top case. When I parked my scooter, the laptop bag went with me even if I was only going for a quick bio break. While 100% of the data I needed for work was stored on the corporate site, the applications I needed to use weren’t. Management frowned on downtime due to employee’s laptop loss and it could take a couple days to get a new laptop and have it configured with the needed programs. So a laptop bag with shoulder strap came in quite handy. The one I have is ~13” x 17”. Any tunnel bag would need to be larger than that.

Before I retired from working with the State data center I used to carry a laptop home in the storage box under the seat of my Burgman 650. Fit fine in there in a laptop bag. I also had a top case on that scooter and put a lot of other stuff in that IF I mounted it. I usually left the top case off however.

Congrats Wolf. I'm looking forward to your videos on this scoot. You have some great productions and I enjoy your editing style. Looking forward to how you resolve this as I like the tank bag/tunnel bag concept. Used one on my cruiser, but no place for the map on a scooter. Seen various solutions, but so far they haven't been what I wanted.

Very nice way to introduce a person instead of simply a username. I’m looking forward to seeing more. Happy trails and stay safe.
