Looks like a twilight ride a few summers ago but the bugs were moths. Thousands of moths, all of us had to pull over to clear the face shields. Yuck.

Hmmm. Moths and River Flies (May Flies) are one thing. June bugs, now there's a rock of an insect just doing its best to penetrate any soft tissue it can hit at 60 mph. BTDT, but was wearing a full face helmet at the time. My helmet visor did end up with a permanent scratch or chip from that encounter. Imagine a 3/4 inch river rock being shot at your face. That's a June Bug. There are other big bugs that are like rocks also but this one is what I have had intimate encounters with while riding.
BTW @Clampett, is that what happened to all the other teeth?

Try one up your left nostril in the middle of a twisty. And she was NOT amused.

Ow. Sounds painful. Not looking forward to the 17 year locusts next month. Nothing like a 3 inch long fluttering rock hitting you and buzzing like crazy.

The fastest I stopped a bike of any kind was when a sweat bee rapidly found its way in through my helmet top vent and dropped down in front of my face. I found out just how fast I can get a full face helmet off.
Had that happen with an open face helmet I used to wear 18 years ago only that time the bee flew up from the fork tunnel up past my chin into the space behind the visor. That time I didn't have to remove the helmet and the bee was blown out. THAT was the ONLY advantage to wearing an open face helmet.

Full face vs open face. I bought an LS2 helmet this spring. Can be a full face or 3/4 model. The best of both worlds

I have tried on both. Thought the LS2 was finished nicer than the Shark inside and out. But neither fit my round head properly.

That's good information Joan. Thanks. I have more of an intermediate oval shape and the Valiant II fit nice and snug with no hot spots. I appreciate the comment on the Shark helmet too ... it's the other one on my short list of two. Was it the newest Shark EVO GT you tried or the earlier EVO ES?

I'd be interested in hearing what other options you've considered or went with. I picked up the LS2 Valiant II for me this past weekend. However, Karin had the same issue with it as you did ... not fitted what appears to be her rounder head shape. She had hot spots at her temple and the sides. We were hoping the Shark EVO GT might be the solution but it sounds like it won't be. Some of the Nolans look promising but they do not have a true flip OVER that I'm aware of.

They don't flip over but are approved for riding open face or closed.

Some HJC, some Bell, Nolan, Shoei, GMAX. But I have to try them on, even different years of the same model can change. Sizing too. Still trying to find a Nolan N100-5 to try on, supply issues.
