I got a notification that the 550 will be landing in Florida @ Solano Cycle very soon. It has been on my 'short list' for a long time. Figures, I just about have my Silverwing where I want it to be

I thought the rule was you are allowed to have 2 bikes PER location.  You're all set with NY and FL.

I find that the AK550 has some seriously good mechanics, suspension, breaking, etc but....

The seat is the worse I've ever owned!! If I'm going more than down the street to collect the shopping I use either gel gel pad or an AirHawk or I'll never get to sit comfortable again.

Then, there's the lack of lower body protection. Totally missing. I've tried some add-on wind deflectors but the direct sunlight pretty well cooked them off.

Then there's parts... I don't know if it's the dealer I bought it from, the local importer, or Kymco but 3 times I've needed or wanted parts and it took almost 2 months the first 2 times and I'm still waiting after almost 3 this time. So, find out, if you can, what kind of supply line they've got. If you lose one of the key-fobs you're looking at a 4 digit replacement.

I'm actually looking forward to the Forza 750 that supposed to be coming soon.

Any questions?

Nice to see the AK550 available in the US. Hopefully other larger displacement scooters will follow.

Is this real or just a rumor?  I haven't seen this anywhere else.  I find it hard to believe that Kymco would try to sell the AK550 here given how badly other maxi scooters like the Tmax have sold here.  The only way this thing will sell here is if its significantly less than the Tmax was.

Over here the prices were almost the same. You, maybe, could have had a Happy Meal at McD's with the difference.

The notice I received mentioned $8995. IIRC, the TMax was over $12,000.

What is the service interval for oil & belt replacement?

Edit: another question,
the photo shows the integrated turn signals. Did they get a waiver for those? DOT has disapproved them previously.

And I can assure you that you'll NOT be changing the oil filter unless you have a lift. A serious amount of tupperware has to come off just to get at it.

Will be interesting to see how Kymco sets this model up for export to USA. The dimensions I recall are 9" separation between the rear turn signals, and 16" for the front.

My 2009 TMax has a wrap around rear light setup, not sure whether it should be called 'integrated' though, but the turn signal bulbs have sufficient separation. Don't know the current rear turn signal separation on the AK550.

Yamaha added horizontal stalks up front to provide sufficient separation on the TMax, although some owners remove them and install turn signals intended for non-US markets. Kymco may have to do something similar if the AK550 has less than 16" separation.

The front turn signals, center to center measure @40cm & 50cm outside  (15.7 & 19.7in). The rear are @32cm (12.6in) apart.

Just for information... The USA maintenance schedule for the AK 550 seems to be a bit different than for non-USA. At least for the initial break-in service...

Yep, same as my Burgman 650 and a few other bikes I've owned. Better than the 187 miles (300 km) indicated in the Euro version of the service manual I downloaded for the initial service.

Way back in the "olden days" that 1st oil change was to remove a pound or two of shavings but, at least, my last 3 machines have been clean so I've regarded the 1st service more like an inspection to make sure all the nuts & bolts have remained fixed in place and the other bits 'n pieces are still hanging on. My philosophy has always been "ride it like you stole it and take good care of it in between". I might be wrong but it works for me.

I am seriously looking for the AK550. Anyone have any positive thoughts about them. I know that dealers can't seem to get them and they move off the floor within a few weeks.

If I didn't already have a Tmax, I'd seriously look at an AK.

There are a number of people on ADV who have bought one of these in the USA.  There is a long thread on the AK550 here: https://advrider.com/f/threads/kymco-ak550-in-the-usa-for-2021.1470001/

I was down at Max Motorsports in Alabama a couple of weeks ago.  They are supposed to be getting one in but didn't know exactly when.

That's interesting Klaviator.
I asked them(Max) about the AK and they told me they wouldn't carry it and had no plans to get one. When I queried more, he replied they preferred dealing in 250 and under scooters. Maybe they had more inquiries about it?

I talked to Mathew who is the scooter manager as well as the scooter tech.  A couple of months ago he told me they had 2 AK550s coming.  When I talked to him a couple of weeks ago he said it was just one.  I don't think they have had a lot of success selling the bigger scooters.  They had to mark the Myroad 700 they had way down to sell it.  I told him that from what I have read the AK550 was selling pretty good.

In all fairness, the Myroad was a double dose of butt ugly. I rode one and it was also heavy, slow handling, poorly suspended, and vibrated noticeably. The AK appears to have improved on all of those failings.

Oh yea, I can guarantee you that the AK is a nimble, surefooted, responsive critter with a pretty nice ride. The seat, for my money, could have been done a bit better butt the Air Hawk pretty well covers that area.

The butt pad is a bit short and hits me in the tail bone. There's a bigger on you can buy from Kymco but as they're order only over here and no 30 day money back I passed.

I talked to the logistics department at Kymco USA in Spartanburg SC this week. Eric said there is a number of bikes waiting to clear customs. The sales department has not said which dealers will get them. I am on the waiting list at four different dealers. Hope to look at one within a few weeks. Won't decide on buying until I can see and touch one.
