Memorial Day is coming up this weekend.  In the past they used to hand out red plastic poppies as a salute to our military veterans, past and present.  I havenít seen that being done recently, so hereís a red poppy to honor our veterans.  Taken on our deck.

Joan, Cathy, & Bob came in town for some relaxing and riding.

We got in two nice rides in the Missouri twisties!  I think all had a good time!  I know for Pete and I it was good for our soul and mind.

So blessed to have had friends in to celebrate my birthday. Iíve never been a person to say itís my birthday weekend. Itís just a day.... but this was a fun birthday weekend.

We got out as a group of six and did some fun stuff while being pandemic responsible. All our meals were carryout with exception of Dennyís yesterday morning. Masks were worn at all public places.

Pete and I felt comfortable hanging with the people we did as we knew they all have been very responsible during the shut down.

Of course this weekend was not all about me it was also about memorializing those that served this country and paid the highest price. Masks?? Stay at home??? Hardly... Thanks to all those that have served and will serve.  Pete and I wound up the day wanting to go to JB National Cemetery. The line into the cemetery was miles long. We called an audible and ended up on the Illinois side to watch the 932nd Air Lift Command flyover to honor those fallen as well as a flyover the VA.

Looks like it was a great day to get out and go for a ride.  It was a rainy day here, so we stayed home.  I was very disappointed to find out that the mayor or Anchorage cancelled the Memorial Day military flyover and the presentation of colors.  He claimed it was because of the pandemic.  I think that was really unfortunate, and a lot of folks were irate over it.  Iím glad you had a nice day to get out.

We did have a great time.  Maggie and Peteís backyard for riding is just amazing.  I am so jealous.  Bob and I rode a total of 1043 miles over the four days.  We enjoyed the rides, the meals, adult beverages  (Joan makes a awesome Mint Julep),  and of course the camaraderie.  Always a good time getting together.  Joan and Carolyn have gotten me to like some really good bourbon.

Sunday night we had a blackout at the Best Western for about an hour during a bad storm.  Maggie and Pete left before in had gotten bad.   That was interesting.  Joan was staying at the BW also and Carolyn was still there.  As my daughter texted me ďThatís how horror movies start.Ē  Here are a few pics.

Great pics!  We go from snow two weekends ago to mid to high 80* weather here.  Go figure!  By the dent in the bottle level, it looks like that Bourbon was enjoyed ... Glad y'all had a good time.  That's what it is all about.

What was nice was it was a test to see how social distancing works riding.  It's super easy to be responsible while still riding.  We wore masks out in public when not eating.  Smaller towns had very few people with the exception of Bonne Terre. We made a gas stop there and a ton of people were there.  I surmise it was more because there are two large state parks close by.  A lot of people were buying alcohol.
