Title: The new SYM TL500 is rolled-out for test rides in Europe!
Post by: Skutorr on October 30, 2019, 01:50:50 AM
Yep, it's here. Looks and sounds amazing; Spanish Tester/Reviewer said he road his 2008 Tmax to the event in Portugal and when he got on the TL 500, it was EXACTLY as if he just got back on his Tmax! Oh, and it's 4,000 Euro LESS than a Tmax 530 or BMW 650 Sport, 2,000 LESS than a Kymco AK 550.

It's 2,000 Euros LESS than a BMW C400 GT Single Cylinder. At 7,999 Euro they won't be able to keep up with the demand...

Damn it!!!!

I bought the Piaggio X10 because the MaxiSym 400 didn't have ABS until a few months after I'd gotten the X10.

Now, they've done it to me again!

The price, in January, will be coming in around €7,300 ($8100) to the €10,000 the AK ran. It is a bit short on the HP at only 40.5Hp where my Kymco is putting out about 10 more. I'll go have a peek when they get here.

Here's the short blurp off the Greek site. I couldn't find anything in UK.

Inspirational design
• Sporty look with luxurious equipment
• 1543mm wheelbase for Sport driving
• Unique identifiable LED lighting system
• Panel with 2 color screens Technological excellence

• Maximum power of 41 PS / 6,750 rpm. (Diploma A2)
• Peak torque of 42.5 Nm / 6.250 RPM.
• Weight distribution 50/50
• Vibration shaft for velvet function
• 275mm double front discs with four-piston radial calipers
• 275mm rear disc
• ABS system

Interesting how everyone is copying the Tmax.
They can't give them away over here.

You didn't mention or perhaps you were unaware that the new SYM TL500 has open chain drive. This feature alone will put off a lot of maxi riders. Lubing and adjusting chains doesn't appeal to those used to virtually maintenance free belt drive.

I didn't dig that deep. I'll go play with one in January.

To be honest, the MaxiSym 600 (or 400) seems to be a bit closer to my ideal machine but I wanted to "go nutx" one more time! I tried the T-Max but had trouble mounting it but the AK was just a few inches different so....

Automatic chain oiler, looks very nice.

Automatic chain oiler, why? It isn't a feature that maxi scooters like, or in a lot of instances are used to if they haven't had any motorcycle experience. Here in the UK with winter approaching cleaning lubing and adjusting chains isn't a feature that many scooter riders relish.

Chain oilers are also more suited for motorcycle where there'll be at least some point where you can attach them. Unlike maxi scooters with lots of bodywork, and usually with any chain drive bike or scooter, an effective aftermarket chain guard to keep the lube from flying off everywhere is essential.

A fully enclosed chain in an oil bath like earlier versions of the Yamaha TMax were popular with owners, previous chain drive sports style maxi scooters like the Gilera GP800 and Aprilia SRV 850 were discontinued due to poor sales.

Even the Honda Integra 700 and 750 hybrid scooter put a lot of prospective buyers off because of chain drive and lack of a rear hugger. Honda's X-ADV adventure scooter has attracted criticism for having chain drive and throwing mud and dirt all over the rear end and passenger.

It's a bit premature saying that the SYM TL500 is being rolled out for test rides in Europe, there's no mention of test rides of the TL500, or it's OTR price on the SYM UK distributors website. It's more likely to Spring next year when the new crop of 2020 scooters and bikes from last months trade shows are delivered to dealers.

A nice touch is that you can already download the SYM TL500 Owners Manual, that's of more practical interest and value to a prospective buyer than the usual promotional videos of a black visored dude hooning round on deserted roads.
