Dawn will be riding to this event on her new Can Am Ryker 900, me on my Tmax.
We're going to take a relaxed 2 day going down, probably stopping in Eminence for the night.
If you made the Missouri rally, you're going to like this even more.

Check out:  Eagle's Landing River Resort    We stayed there 2 years ago on way back from Arkansas.  Nice rooms and a fantastic view.

We're definitely in ... our grandson graduates HS so there'll be no grandparents' day conflict to contend with (don't think they have such in college).  And his sister will just be in 8th grade.

And Hwy 19 down form Salem isn't a bad little road.  Will you visit the Mammoth springs state park? then 412 west?

Not during the rally no.  We do 19 as part of of regular riding within the state. This group did 19 at our Maxi Scoots Rally in Missouri a few years ago.

I think this year when Pete and a few of us leave St. Louis we will go 21 to 49 to K to 106 to Eminence and spend the night so our friends from out of state can see Alley Spring and that area.  Once we leave I will go 106 to 17 to 137 South then 76 to Kissee Mills to 160 to 125 to the ferry then into Harrison.   We make for a fun two day trip from St. Louis.

Coolio!  I think Cathy and Bob will be with us.  Maybe Joan if easy enough for her, leave the trailer at our place and ride down?  I forgot to talk about that when we saw her last month.

We figured since we had the time would be easy enough to make the trip down 2 days.  My only concern is we might not get to stay in Eminence since it's the Sunday night of a Labor Day weekend.   If that's the case we could find something in West Plains or Thayer I'm sure then take the beautiful 160 or 142 all the way across the MO.  We'll figure it out, we always do.

If we stay in Thayer.. we could do a Push Mt Loop into Harrison :-)  It's only 154 miles.   Arkansas 223 off of 9 is a very fun road as well.

There's a couple of nice options in Mammoth as well.  We will work it out after the New Year :-)

Well, it's a bit west of central in location...east to west, so that's good....I think...though it's a tich to the northern end of things, but I mean that in a good way....for me anyway.

Plenty of camping space, and plenty of hotel accommodations....unless it's near rally time, that is, but even then you can find a room if you're persistent in your search, just bring a saddlebag full of money and it's unlikely that you'll have to sleep on a picnic table in a the city park...but that's not allowed anyway, so never mind, just stay away the hell from here from about August 1st through about the 15th, unless you actually like the chaos, congestion, and price gouging of the Sturgis Rally.

Lots and lots of great roads, and many historically interesting places.

There's some enormously large, carved, stone faces down there in the southern region of the Black Hills....or so I'm told.

There's a bunch of Buffalo, Pronghorn, and a zillion Prairie Dogs walking around Custer State Park....but you're not allowed to feed or pet them....especially the Buffalo, they get all testy when you bug them.

Not a lot of mosquitos, though some, and normally low humidity, though there is always a chance of a biblical hailstorm from any squall that rolls through, usually about every other day from May through August.

The rattlesnakes are shy, and I've only seen two since 1993.

There's Mountain Lions, but they haven't eaten anyone yet, as far as I know.

Lots of motorcycle dealerships in the area for parts and service if needed...though they will probably have to order anything more unusual than a spark plug.

I have a nice garage and a decent pickup truck for vehicular emergencies if needed.

I know all the good roads in the region.

How am I doing so far?

Don't think I'm a possible attendee; but like John said,  it would be great to meet some the Maxi Scoots members, if they are of the same great caliber,(and why-ever would that not be so! ), of the Maxi Scoots members I met this fall. Greg and Peggy, and Bill and Linda visited here; but only for the one day;-(
We had a blast.  It was the highlight of our summer.

Anyone with a little time - try to work in MO T and 125 and 160 out of Ava MO.  T is an a perfect road both ways.  160 is nice, but a lot of traffic.

I agree with Carolyn, if you don't plan to ride with me on the long Friday ride to Mt Magazine, I would head north and hit Hwt T.  (there is a Lambert's Throwed Rolls near by)

If you want me to work up a route, I will.

Hi John,  I called the Family Budget Inn a couple of weeks ago.  Talked to the manager.  A bit hard to understand.  Only would give me AARP/AAA discount.  Not sure if I want  to stay there or not.  Talked to Maggie about it and we were going to see about other choices.

What convincing?  SD sounds great and it's only about 22 hours for us.  Shorter and quicker than our usual 26 hour straight shot to Naples FL and we'd have a camper to crash in if necessary.  We're in!

New to the forum, found it from a thread on BurgmanUSA.  I'm hoping to be able to make this ride.  I've been looking over the rides and getting really excited.  I've been to a couple of STO's but can't make it this year because of timing.  I love riding this area.  Being from Fort Worth, not a lot of curves.  Arkansas gives me chance to sharpen my riding skills.  Hope to see everyone there.

I've not got it finalized, but it looks like I will be bring in up to 12, including myself. Right now, we've got 8 riders lined up. I've made lodging reservations there and for the trip there from Grand Junction, Colorado for 12, as some folks could not commit, yet. We will spend a couple of days getting through the twists and turns, mountain passes and valleys, then beat it on over to arrive Monday afternoon, and head back Friday morning. Are there registration fees, or even a list?

Title: Re: Roll Call
Post by: Scooter-Maniac on February 19, 2020, 12:47:32 AM
By the way, those four spots over the 8 folks that have committed are open to first come, first serve to anyone with the experience and bike to make the ride first to Grand Junction, then on to the rally. I've got a 2,400 mile loop planned, plus the rally riding. I make the lodging reservations and plan the route. If you want a couple of days of excellent Colorado riding built into your trip, which includes twisty, steep mountain passes with no guard rails and can get to Grand Junction for kickstands up Friday morning, Sept. 4, get with me.

By list, I mean do you need individual names, but your “just show up and ride” response would seem to indicate “no”. So, my group and I will do just that. I’ll look for further details as they’re posted and otherwise will see everyone then. Scooter on!

Nahh not really needed.  If I have numbers I can basically figure out how to do the rides.  See ya soon!

What I will do closer to the rally is ask people for an emergency contact then I make a list I have when we are at the rally.

A few things for new attendees, this is not a formal pay your money and get a t-shirt and swag kind of rally. This is a meeting of like- minded riders who want some fun and challenging rides with interesting sites and good food along the rides. Usually one free day for rest, rides, etc. and scheduled rides the other days. Expect 150 to 200 mile all day rides. We enjoy each other's company and are a pretty mellow bunch. So come and have fun.

We've made the tough call to forego this year's riding and social get-together in Arkansas.  A combination of the:

1) Canada/USA border still closed to non-essential vehicular traffic ... and they're talking about extending this until at least late August;
2) state of COVID19 ... particularly in AR and;
3) fact that we must, by law, self-isolate for another 2 weeks upon returning to Canada makes it logistically impossible for us to participate.

Another key consideration deals with Karin having taken over the care giving responsibilities for her Mom, at least until the COVID19 threat is eliminated.  She is immune compromised and we simply do not want to risk picking up this virus and endangering her and others around us.

Needless to say, we are unhappy campers and disappointed riders right now.

Len, Always family first. Will miss riding with you and Karin. Take care and stay safe.

Thanks John.  Likewise from us.  Our annual trip to ride and hang with y'all has become a must do in our social calendar.  We rode to Lake Huron yesterday for Canada Day and had a beach side picnic lunch (physical distancing of course).  We talked about how much we will miss the 2 get-togethers this September (Maxi-scoots and STO Rallies) ... and what to do with two weeks of vacation that Karin now has to use up before the end of this year.

The irony ... we have the vacation time ... cheap fuel is plentiful ... desire is high and yet, we're pinned down and not able to venture very far or to socialize with those we'd like to as we choose to.  Big Bummer!

Title: Re: Roll Call
Post by: Maggie on July 02, 2020, 06:05:24 PM
Len, we are the same way.  Pete and I do small things together close by.   Pete drives me to my errands but generally doesn't come inside.   We did get together with Carolyn and Robert to celebrate Carolyn's birthday.  We social distanced in Robert's backyard.  I know Pete was happy to talk to someone besides me :-)

I'm so thankful that Pete and I like each other so much.  I can't imagine being stay at home with someone you don't care for much.  Pete and I have "fought" twice in our relationship and once was during this stay at home period.   Over a puddle of water on the kitchen counter....

Side note our stay put into effect that anytime you are outside of your home, you are to wear a mask.

Title: Re: Roll Call
Post by: Steve_YYZ on July 05, 2020, 01:02:59 PM
Yup, I'm also foregoing any travel plans this year and will miss the Rally. Considering I'm into my 5th month of work-from-home and am basically self-isolated, it wouldn't be prudent for me to risk travel at this time, plus as sonuvabug noted above, the border is closed and there is still the 14-day quarantine to consider. So it will be a 2-week Staycation this year and likely a bunch of day rides here in Ontario. Good for the budget, bad for the psyche!

Title: Re: Roll Call
Post by: minimac on July 08, 2020, 11:36:18 PM
It's starting to look not so good in some parts south of the Border. While I'm not too concerned about our group riding and socializing, for me the concern is the overnight lodgings to get there and back. I've met and seen some real #$&^! people on my travel back home from wintering down south. I'll withhold making a final decision until the beginning of September and see how things are looking then.

Welcome to Missouri...

UGH just ugh.  82 KIDS infected.

Pete's oncologist reported today that a friend's daughter went out with no mask and no social distancing because it's America and she had the right to do so.  Her 58 year old Father died this week from C-19.    Imagine living with that for the rest of your life.  You wanted to go to the lake and party because it's your right..... and killed your Father in the process.

I haven't decided yet.  I would like to ride some new roads in Arkansas.  I went to a Scooting the Ozarks several years ago but haven't ridden that much in Arkansas.  A lot depends on whether or not anyone else is going.  Right now its hard to tell who, or if anyone is going.

My wife wants to rent an RV outside of Gatlinburg. We're retiring in December and planning to buy a toy hauler and hit the road next summer. She wants to make sure she'll be OK with living in an RV.
Would that still work for you guys?

Will you be staying outside of Gatlinburg or hauling it to Maggie Valley?

We'll trailer the bike to Gatlinberg. The RV rental is just east of there at Pittman Center on US-321.
We're gonna go white river rafting one day too, if you guys want to join us for that.
