I'm planning to be there as long as I get my Burgman back from the shop in time. I had it in for routine maintenance a few weeks ago (oil, filter, tire, etc) and somehow they dropped it off the bike lift. Smashed the front fairing, side fairing, power mirror assembly, windshield, and rear rack.
But as long as it's ready, I'll be to NY state with you guys.

Steve

WOW ... that was devastating news Steve.  Sorry to hear this.

Hope it is as good as new when you get it back ---in the timely manner you need.

The owner of a local marina (where I had built a 15 ton straddle carrier) informed me one day when I arrived to go boating that he had dropped a large sail boat.  I looked over at the lift ..... "Not dropped from the lift , he said, .... the hitch for the yard trailer broke ... and it ran back down a grade before the boat fell off the trailer."  He called the boat's who after a moment's silence started laughing.  Questioning why this was funny ... the owner said he presently was in a stress management course.  Must have been a really good course !!

Enjoy NY, Steve.
Mike

Any word from Carolyn or Joan?

Carolyn will not doesn’t have a enough vacation time left.  Joan has family in hospice so it is not looking like she can come.  Please keep her and her family in your prayers.

Karin and I are planning to attend.  Just working through the trip planning logistics now.

We just returned from a vacation week along Ontario's west coast paradise ... Lake Huron shores.  Camped for the week near Kincardine and rode over 1,600 kms. (1,000 miles) between Grand Bend and Sauble Beach just taking day trips on our scooters.

On the way home, the RF brake caliper seized on our truck/truck camper combo so we parked at a very convenient repair shop, unloaded the scoots from the cargo trailer and rode home the rest of the way.  A final little "bonus ride" for the week.  Just waiting for the "call" today from the shop as to what needs doing and how much it'll cost.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again.  ~ Len ~

I  get a count of eight or nine, depending on whether or not Steve can make it.  I know that Steve had volunteered to lead the ride one day, but has anyone else stepped up to manage this event?  Or are the few of us just going to improvise every day?

JD. I'll be leaving on Sunday from Pinehurst riding the BLP
to Afton VA. Spend the night and head to Gettysburg  PA on Monday via the Skyline Dr and back roads. Spend Tuesday AM at the Gettysburg Battlefield before riding the 4 hours to Cooperstown. You can join in route if you want.

I'm going to cancel my plans to come to this Meet Up.

I'm located halfway between Cooperstown and Eureka Springs, the location of "Scoot the Ozarks," and need to choose between them.  As far as I can tell by the posts here, projected attendance is meager and I don't see any indication that anyone has stepped up to manage things in Maggie's absence.  Rather than risking a 1300+ mile round trip to an event, the details of which I am in doubt, I've decided to cancel my reservation and head to Eureka Springs, instead.

I look forward to next year's Maxi Scoot Meet Up so that I can again see all the friends I made last year.

I feel badly for not being able to attend this year but such is life.

We hope to be able to be back for next year.  (Probably as we discussed last year will be Arkansas)

I do have a suggestion since you all will be a smaller group.  Ride to Lake Placid.  I wanted to do that but with a larger group didnít think it was manageable.   Itís a long day but the roads look amazing!

Just a beautiful area, very disappointed I am unable to make the trip this year. Really wanted to go to the Woodstock site and the Baseball Hall of Fame. Hope the weather is great and those attending have a blast. Probably the best group I have ever ridden with so be safe.

joan- just go into the middle of a big cow field, wait for it to rain and make everything muddy, and look at some ants about a mile away with binoculars, and you've recaptured Woodstock. I was there and it SUCKED.

Well I was over at the dealers again today and my baby is still looking pretty sad. Still quite a few parts that haven't arrived yet.
So right now my odds seem to have dropped of me having a scooter to make it to the meetup. I'm still hopeful but also have to be a realist.

Had a nice chat for an hour with John Powell this evening who I was supposed to be bunking with and it sounds like we're trying to flip a 3-sided coin and hoping for heads!

Will keep folks advised. Perhaps I'll go out and buy a lottery ticket. Would have better odds!

Steve

Hey All, I thought I'd tally up who will be in our small but amazingly fun rally group.  As of right now, we have:

Cathy & Bob - IL
John - TN
Bruce - NY
Karin & Len - Waterloo, ON Canada (staying at the Cooperstown Deer Run Campground - Site #40)

___________
6 - confirmed

Tim - PA - maybe abbreviated visit
Steve - Toronto Canada - longshot

________
2 - maybe

Feel free to change/add your information by copying the above text, re-posting a reply to this thread and adding your information.

FYI - John, if Steve's ride isn't repaired in time for the get-together, as a fellow Canuk, I'll be happy to have his back and step in and drink that delicious cold beer you would have had waiting for him ...  :hug2:

Looking forward to seeing you guys later in the fall.

First, I received the "motorcycle map" and local tourist guide yesterday for the Cooperstown area.  The map was a bit of a disappointment as it focused mostly on the roads to the south and east of Cooperstown and it was really more of an advertising flyer for restaurants and shopping spots.  Still useful but not what I had hoped for.

My sense is the "good" riding roads are more to the north/northeast in the hills.  However, the Tourist Guide is well put together and really does a good job detailing what's available in and around Cooperstown.  Since I was able to order three of these Guides ... I have a couple for y'all to share back at the Bayside Inn.

The participant tally hasn't changed but I thought I'd repost it here for ease of copy/pasting if it does need changing.  So we have:

Cathy & Bob - IL (staying at the Bayside Inn & Marina = 607-547-2371)
John - TN - (same as above)
Bruce - NY - (same as above)
Karin & Len - Waterloo, ON Canada (staying at the Cooperstown Deer Run Campground - Site #40 = 607-376-7167)
___________
6 - confirmed

Tim - PA - maybe an abbreviated visit Tue to Thurs
Steve - Toronto Canada - longshot waiting for parts to complete repairs to his scoot
________
2 - maybe

Feel free to change/add your information by copying the above text, re-posting a reply to this thread and adding your information.

We're starting to get excited about this get together.  I know we'll figure the best routes out based on all the hard work Maggie et al already put into planning this event and with a smaller riding pack, we will have Ninja like flexibility to ride where, when and how we choose.

Can't wait.   :blob:

Bruce is staying 1/4 up the road at the Hickory Grove Motor Inn Wednesday until Sunday morning. Even though this is relatively close to home, I'm unfamiliar with the riding in that area, but the run up to the north and across to Vermont to visit Hemmings is a nice ride.

Well folks, scoot is still in the shop and won't be ready this week, so sadly the dreams have died and I'm officially out.

Hope you all have a great time and sure going to miss ya, but next year count me in again.

That's a real pity Steve.  They could have loaned you a bike .... especially since you are hurting because of the shop's error. Not much good will there it seems.

Steve mentioned the following in the BurgmanUSA forum when he told us about the incident with his Burgman: "As to a loaner. The bike is so customized there's nothing they could give me. The seat is modded for my height, all the racks for the cases, etc. Even lights mounted on the windshield. So nope, no loaner would do. "

So it isn't a matter of the dealer having to "step-up."  Steve doesn't seem to want one.

Cathy, for sure you guyz would earn bragging rights for being from the furthest distance away.  Other than that ... ?

Karin and I were thinking it would be nice to have everyone over to our campsite (assuming the park allows this) for a get together one evening.  After reviewing everyone's plans, it appears Wednesday night would be the best night since John heads back home on Thursday.

We'll have our complete campsite set up with propane cooking grill etc. so we thought maybe an after ride dinner followed by a campfire.  Thoughts?

I checked the policies at the campground. All guests need to check in at the office and there is a $5.00 fee for each person.  Don’t know if this is for an all day visit using there facilities etc.  You can find out when you get there.  Sounds like a good idea weather permitting. Bayside is about 2 miles south of the Campground and Hickory Grove is 3 miles south of the Campground.

Thanks for checking it out Cathy.  Usually the guest fee is for using things like swimming pools, showers etc.  I'll negotiate a freebie evening for us.  Better done when its face-to-face in my experience.

Thanks for the good vibes Joan & Maggie.  I don't have a Go Pro so still pics will have to do.  Also, we don't use a GPS when we ride so hopefully someone downloaded the .gpx files to reference. I'll be printing off the routes and bringing them with me.

Our truck camper and cargo trailer all checked out, air pressures, fluids topped up etc.  Cargo trailer loaded with scooters, too much camp gear, enough tools to start a service facility, 8 chairs etc.  Today is get propane day, finish coupling trailer up, check lights & electric brakes, pack and load personal items into camper etc.

Border laws won't allow us to bring much more than condiments and packaged goods over the border so we'll stop at a grocery store on the way and pick up our food including eats for all for our Wednesday night campground get-together.  We're thinking about maybe Caesar Salad, grilling some hamburgers, sausages or hot dogs and some dessert.  If we can find some farm fresh corn on the way we'll grab some of that too.  Water, soft drinks (soda & Ice Tea), fresh brewed coffee and Canadian beer will be provided on site.

Tomorrow (Monday) is a work day for us.  "Thunderbirds are GO" to leave first thing Tuesday morning with an ETA of mid afternoon Tuesday depending on traffic & border crossing time.

Maggie, did you have a planned route in mind to Lake Placid?  If so, can you share? Thx.

See eveybody soon!   We'll miss the rest of youz guyz.

Pete and I were going to do this route after the rally:

After leaving Lake Placid if you want to get back faster you can utilize the Interstate or just stay on Rte 9.

With a smaller group that likes to ride, this will be a very doable day ride!

Have a great time at the rally. After an extended weekend in and near New York City, with pleasant, high 70s temperatures (except when the hurricane passed offshore) to visit our daughter on 'Parents' Weekend', Mary and I returned to Atlanta airport and low 90s on Tuesday. I hope the pleasant weather holds for your rides and events!
