Title: Missouri - Bixby Run
Post by: Maggie on May 28, 2018, 03:29:48 PM
Bixby is our riding clubs go to place.  There are so many ways to and from Bixby which only enhances the reason to make Bixby a destination location.

The route I picked is my favorite.  Pete and I will get up on a summer morning and start this at 7am.   We tend to flip this route especially in the summer to include the Valle Mines Spring on the way home.  A nice drinking spring with extreme cold water, a nice respite on a hot day.

On of the reasons I like this route is it keeps us off Hwy 21 which is just a slug of a road.  It's a nice road for a major state highway but it's just a slug at times.

The main attraction of course are the roads but the Bixby Country Store is the BOMB!  I've eaten there over 100 times and never had a bad meal.

I can vouch for this run!  In years gone by I'd made weekend trips to St Louis just so I could ride those roads.  The section of this that is the County "P" to "DD" to state route 32.  County Y and MO 8 are other excellent roads among the many.

Bob and I have been on some of those roads.  We went to Potosi, MO for the BMW Falling  Leaf Rally back in 2011 and 2012.  It is the 2nd weekend in October.  They are great roads.  Bob wants to go back this fall. It all depends of course on the weather. It is the kind of Rally you can just show up. Maggie if your still in MO at that time we would love to meet up with you and Pete and maybe some other members who are close by.

The one an only time I was visiting Missouri I had my car.  I also was a newish rider but I so wanted my bike as the roads that I was driving on were amazing.  Would love to ride around Missouri some time.

Of course in my humble opinion MO has some of the best hidden gem riding roads.  I can still take people who think they are hard core riders and surprise them with roads they've never been on.

Well said.  I can laugh now but wasnít in Oct. 2012.  We left Potosi for a nice leisurely ride.  Planned on getting back for the Rally festivities around 4 PM.  Didnít happen.  My rear tire wore down to the cords.  2:30 on a Saturday afternoon looking desperately for a rear tire. Found one 50 miles SW in the wrong direction.  Bob rode ahead to get to the dealer before they closed. Got a speeding ticket 3 miles from the dealer.  I waited for the tow truck. Local tire shop in the town where we bought the tire opened up to put the tire on.  Very nice fellow.  On the road back to Potosi by 8 PM.  Had about 200 miles to ride back to the campground.  Got back just  before midnight.  Pulled up to our tent when the storm hit.  Had been watching it coming in as we rode on dark unfamiliar roads.  Oh what an adventure that weekend was. Here is a picture of me on my nearly bald tires. Before my day went to hell.

If you come to Missouri with close to bald tires, I promise you you won't be going home on them :-)

I loved you telling this story when we were out drinking Cathy, it was hilarious :-)

Lesson learned. :). You can bet there will be plenty of tread on my tires anywhere near MO.

I haven't been to Bixby yet but I think it will be on my list for the next time I go back home for a visit. I make the run from Texas to Illinois several times a year and Bixby can added to my trips with only a slight detour. Thanks for letting the rest of us know. I cannot say that I have ever read of it before.
