Only thing I can remember from one of our rides is the one that looked like one of those talking fish hang up thingies.  That certainly wasn't worth stopping to take a picture.

Very cool... one of my favorite mail boxes is not fun looking but functional.

Along the Great River Road south of Chester, IL there is a mailbox attached to a pulley system that go to a house up on the bluff.

It was either go to the Gym or go fro a ride. Since I knew where there was one mailbox to "shoot" I headed out there. On my way I spotted this one,
Not to artistic but out of the ordinary for this neighborhood anyway,
(http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff220/wingnutttt/006-10_zps85e842f9.jpg) (http://s240.photobucket.com/user/wingnutttt/media/006-10_zps85e842f9.jpg.html)
Then on to "shoot" the one I was looking for.

And it shoots Silverbullets!!

Then oddly enough this was a couple miles up the road!

Beautiful 75 degree day for a ride. 94 miles.
Lets see some of the art in your neighborhood!

By the way Lou, nice to see the GoldWing on the road.
Thanks Dan. I'm not back to work yet. Doc says my bones are taking their time healing. In his words, "Your not 40 anymore. Its hard to just sit around!! I've been riding the Wing a bit, not exceeding my limitations. Short trips once or twice a week. Since I don't use my upper body to get it off its side stand. I go back to the Doc the day after we get back from the rally.

The Helix is so much more comfortable & easier to manuver. I Love riding the Wing. Torn on which bike I should bring. I would love to bring the Wing & have fun with it there! Common sense is aying bring the Helix.

I went out FM road sign hunting today and I finally came across a mailbox worth putting in this thread.  Not as spectacular as others posted but at least it's better than the plastic big mouth bass ones we usually see. It appeared they cut the parts out of wood and attached them to a standard mailbox.

There's a couple stories to this next one.
After our Sunday Chichen ride one fellow who witnessed my deer hit last year didn't want to go down that same road on the way back so we tool a well traveled road & I found this one.

While chatting over dinner Brian was saying that the pipes on his New 2014 GS1200 Beemer were quite distintive as not many folks have them around here if any. I replied Kind of like the one in a million sounding pipes I have in my Restored OldWing.

As I was going back to take this picture I could see an older bike approaching me in my mirrors as it had a Vetter Fairing. Up along side came a 1979 OldWing with the EXACT pipes I have on my bike. Had to ride alongside of it for a while just to listen to it.

Oh...........Here's the pic,

Well she's changed her skirt again this time it's a little more summer like and Robin I checked it and it appears maybe she has some melanoma going on from too much sunshine or like I previously said age/weather.

Nice mailbox pictures !
Maybe tomorrow I'll get a picture of what they call our mailbox now ... it is down at the end of the street. :violin:
You see, in Canada Post's lacking wisdom they are doing away with door to door delivery- replaced with a CMB. Cost saving measures they tell us !  But why did they pick my town as the first in the country upon which to force this change ?
Speaking of snow, a ski friend traveling in the Denver area sent me a picture today of snow making underway at Vail ! :2tu:

Mike, good luck.  All new developments here since maybe 1970ish have had either street (rural) or community (worse) delivery, depending on how corrupt the developer was.  My house is mid-'60's.  The box is one of those through-the-wall ones where (theoretically) you don't even have to go out the door for the mail.  I bought this house partially because of that.  I had street delivery in my prior home.  I never knew if I was going to find my mail in the box, strewn along the street, or missing completely.  Don't get me started on when some kids stole my check order from that box!!!  Or, the time I found a dead toad in there - and, hint, toads only are available in the heat of summer.

The PO has been trying to do away with door delivery here, too.  So far we've beat the zombies back everywhere, but they don't want to stay dead.

Thanks Robin,

I keep looking out the window for the letter carrier's arrival at the door for the once "regular" time and check the mail box ...just in case he came past for old time's sake.   The postal workers hold "information pickets" just to let the management know they don't like the change either.  The lady that delivered for our street (and also lives on our street) took a transfer for a route about 10 kms away - just to keep her job for a while longer.  I'm looking forward to the effects of the first snow plow on the community mail box.  It will be a twisted pile of scrap metal by the time the street is cleared.  Oh ... snow !  btw Environment Canada is predicting 20 - 30 cms of snow for northern New Brunswick on Sunday. :2tu:

I guess the most exotic one around here is is similar to the John Deere.  It's not that one, it's more old-school.  North of Caddo Mills, south of Merit, I think.

These people around here need to get to work on their mailboxes, they're all so boring.

Title: Re: Mailbox Fun
Post by: sailingskier on August 05, 2015, 08:20:45 PM
Boring ???  Robin, I'll show you boring !!

These Community Mail Boxes appeared last fall ... and everyone still hates them.  In fact they will most likely become an election issue in Canada.  The head moron called an election on Sunday ... so that means we get 11 weeks of the lesser morons begging for "your" vote so they can sit back, do nothing and get paid way too much for doing so.  Hmmmmm maybe I should be a moron --if it pays !

And just realized they (Canada Post) placed this CMB in a no-parking zone !  The morons are all over the place up here !
Only thing good about the CMB program on a personal note ... I filled out a survey in reaction to the mail boxes and was included in a focus group on them.  The 90 minute session, with 7 other people, paid us each $100.  I would have been happy to complain without the "pay"   :head:

Uh-oh.  I think I hit a nerve

Those things have been here at least 30 years, but only in new developments, and I think they have to have sign-on from someone, never looked in to it.

As for me, I still have a slot in the wall where the mail is >>SUPPOSED<< to just sail right on into the box inside the house.  With some delivery people, that mostly works except when the cursed ad-package comes.  With other delivery people, they'll leave a single letter dangling in the mouth of the thing.

A couple years ago the PO here (intentional acronym :) was trying to stop door to door delivery.  Didn't work out so well for them.

That's cool !  Bet it was a therapy session to combat Attention Deficit Disorder.  Or....  he really enjoys melting steel with fire. :dunno:
The chain had to have been laid out in a jig --- the links are all straight.

Found a mailbox yesterday that I should have seen a long time ago as it is on the route I often take to just go for a local ride.  It is almost identical to the two "barn" boxes shown in the posting of August 5th, with the two wagon wheels.  "Just Plain Pretty".  I'd post the picture but the "add image to post" must be in vacation mode .... :dunno:  The select image box is a no-show after clicking on the link.   :hs1:

Thanks Maggie !  Still refused to work with using Firefox so this entry is made using Chrome.  When Firefox doesn't work I generally realize I should have simply gone with Internet Explorer or Chrome ....but Firefox has usually worked for entries here in the past.   :dunno:

Anyway here are pictures of the mailbox found yesterday.

It is warm (by our standards) in Nova Scotia today ... 31C right now.

I wish I would've stopped on the weekend I was in a 50 mile bicycle tour and passed a neat mailbox. The box itself was normal but it had a backdrop made of about 10 old full size skis all different colors.  Another I saw on a casual bike ride was a tractor mailbox with a load of little miniature hay bales it was so neat

Taken at a real neat museum/MC apparel store.  The museum is an old telephone company museum ... neat stuff from yesteryear ....

Kewl topiary.

BTW, did they have one of those old timey phones that had a string going from the listen/talk part to the box with the numbers on it then on to the wall? I've heard of those & I think my grandma had one!

Way, way back in the day, before rotary phones my grandparents got a phone. When Grandpa passed on, Mom took the number, and when Mom moved to Florida my brother took the number. Another few years and our family will have had that number for close on to a century.

I've heard tell that my brother's daughter has had her eyes on it for some time now and has to be watched closely.

I wanted to take this exact picture a few years ago!  We had just left Telico Plains.  Decided not to turn around as we it the Skyway at like 7:45 and thought best to keep moving ;-)  Thanks for the picture!

I got this one while riding my CTX instead of the Swing, but it's still a good mailbox:
