Title: Scoot Tag
Post by: G-Bo on August 18, 2010, 07:43:33 PM
How about starting a scooter tag here? The scootdawg.com forum started this and given the vast areas we cover(sea to shining sea)....so this is the fun way to do scooter tag.

How about a STICKY for this thread?  :2tu:

The Game:

* To start, someone posts a photo of their scooter with a "Tag"-a landmark or other designated place/person/thing. The person posting the pic would state what will constitute a "Tag". Tags can be general or specific...but remember some specific places are regional-(Like White Castle..bummer!).

    Some examples would be:
Scooter in front of a lake.
    Scooter with grandma on it
Scooter in front of a dealership(could be a Ford, GM, Suzuki, Yamaha, etc)
Scooter in front of a McDonald's

* Other participants ride to a tag location in their area and take a photo with THEIR scooter in a similar spot. It can be a new or old pic as long as it fits the Tag.

* The first person to "tag" the pic by posting their photo with their scooter gets to post the next Tag. It may simply be stated as to what the tag is or a pic may be added as well.

* If 7 days pass with a Tag not being "tagged", the game opens up for a new post with a new tag.  This will keep it "rolling along!"

So, Let's Roll!!!!!

This is a lot of fun.  We do this on the Nighthawk forum.  It's a great way to get out and ride.  Matter of fact it spawned a second game of who could get the most tags for the season.

I like the ideal of coast to coast tag sure opens the game up for everyone to take part in it, also like the 7 day rule. so lets get tagging! to clarify with this currrent picture of a "mom & pop" type of place, a "chain" type of place wouldn't work would it?

In the SLSC we also play tag on a local basis, and last fall we had a game of county sign tag see how many counties you can get, that would also work on a coast to coast basis.

It's a bar/restaurant.

Do I pick the next tag?

If so, post a pic of your scoot at work.  :2tu:

Scoot at work. I think the rule is you have to post the picture first but maybe you work at the bar, so I'll take it.

Scooter by a prison, jail will do.

Edited to add - Rule clarification, Though they are of my scoot, I may have cheated using photos on hand. Does it have to be fresh photos?

Title: Re: Scoot Tag
Post by: Dan on August 19, 2010, 04:38:49 AM
I'm a bit confused here Phil.  I think the way it is played is whoever posts the image first gets to pick the next tag.  tasia posted the restaurant pic and chose in front of work next.  So you don't need to post a pic of the bike at prison unless you want or need to show an example.

Also one important rule and I don't know if it was detailed above but all the pics should be new, not something you had taken before the tag has been picked.

Title: Re: Scoot Tag
Post by: DaveO on August 19, 2010, 04:49:34 AM
I think Phil is doing it right , you don't just pick the next picture, you post the next tag for someone else to get as phil did, each post should contain 2 pictures, 1 of current tag and 1 of a new tag.

:2tu: Good one Phil that's not something most people go by each and every day.

As you can see in G-Bo's op post the next PHOTO for people to find.

Yeah, that's  the way I've played it, wouldn't be fair to send someone off for something you haven't done. I've only played where all is fair short of altering photos, so you want to try to pick something that is less likely people might already have a picture of, otherwise you need a dated news paper or something as tags on photos can be altered. It also sort of shows where people have been, what they are interested in by what sort of pictures they have on hand. Also, stimulates people to take more pictures when they ride as they think a picture in front of this or that would be nice, maybe come in handy also. Pictures at work or restaurants would be too easy, most people would have a photo. A picture in front of a statue with a horse, soldier, etc. less likely. I've seen local groups play where it has to be fresh photos, as things can be more easily controlled. Of course, any group can set their own rules and everyone would be on the honor system, not to use old photos etc. So I'm fine with whatever rules, just they need to be established as there seems to be various ways to play.

Dan, I agree with you. Your explanation of how the game should progress makes more sense to me. Perhaps I'm dealing with a comprehension deficit as well.

Title: Re: Scoot Tag

Correct!

The first person to tag a pic gets to choose the next tag with a pic to go along with the new tag. It's part of the fun in finding it!

As far as new pics, I'm not requiring those. Riders can use pre-tag pics. This will help keep it moving along. I prefer new pics, but that's ok by me. I updated the rules to indicate this.

Since I don't want to be responsible for killing a game of scooter tag - I can accept this as a bonifide European landmark even without the scooter in the photo.  I must defer to the forum mods or the OP, if they accept this then it is okay with me.

But, midlifecrisis, pending mod approval, what is it that we are now supposed to be looking for?

Well, the pic should have a scoot in it, hence the reason for the Scoot tag. If one doesn't appear by Aug 27, then it opens up for new start.

If you'd like to tag the exact item - take a trip to TN, east of but not too far from Dresden, TN.

OK an ancient building without a roof on it and no windows, I don't expect 11th century in the USA but something very old.

If mine gets kicked out I will bow out gracefully and wait till a scooter is available (or will my Diversion suffice)  Very Happy

The whole point is when you tag, you post two pictures.. one like the previous tag then at the same time upload a new tag.

To clarify the rules, the tagger has time to post a new pic after completing the prior tag-find. They don't have to be posted at the same time. Technically, they have 7 days to post the new tag pic after completing the last one. Gives folks time to find the tag and create a new one.

To me that makes the game drag on... but you are the moderator, so start us off again please with a new pic or are we still on European Landmarks?

Title: Re: Scoot Tag
Post by: Dan on August 24, 2010, 07:12:05 PM
I didn't call the game but one of the core values of this site is to promote the rider not the ride.  I would allow any powered two-wheeled machine to play... even three wheel for you MP3 and trike owners out there.

I understand that this is how you want to play but if I may make a suggestion.  You would have a lot more activity if only the tag needed to be photographed.  The first player that shows the photo then picks the idea for the next tag not actually go out and take it.

Title: Re: Scoot Tag
Post by: G-Bo on August 24, 2010, 07:25:42 PM
Good idea, Dan. I like that. The only modification would be for the tagger to simply state the next tag or opt to add a pic to it. Fair enough?

We're still on "A European landmark in the South?  Or anywhere."

I concur, the tag can include a scooter, motorcycle, trike or other vehicle. But it needs to include a vehicle in it. :)

OK, This is the oldest building my scoot has been parked near in the past few weeks.  It is an 1831 wooden "General Store" on the California Coast.  My scoot is parked beyond the fuel pumps but I am sure there are enough scoots in the photo to compensate for the lack of "my scoot"

The new tag would be "Your scoot Near a Lake or other body of water".  My scoot is the one on the left in this photo:

Maggie's tag is of a historic St Louis landmark in Old North St Louis, Missouri, a part of St Louis that has seen better days, but the Crown Candy Kitchen is still doing business after 97 years. and as seen on Man vs Food on the Travel Channel.

And that takes us to my tag which in St. Charles, Missouri on historic Main St. home of Missouri's first state capital, about 20 miles west of Crown Candy.

yeah, I had thought the ferry might slow it down a bit. I read it backward the first time, was looking for a wand and some wings when Dave posted. Then I realized it was a boat.

Moving Hell more like FLYING along, that was just under 19 minutes, on the last one and only 19 hours total for 3 tags, that's got to be some sort of record. Good job and lets keep it going!

JBrot, I'm going to call that Buffalo's tag is still on.  :violin:

A Farmer's Market sign isn't the same as a Farm to Market/Rural sign. Go snap a pic of a Rural Road sign and it will meet the tag.  :2tu:

I though this one would go fast, ride out to a rural road, find a road # sign, park beside it and take a picture  :dunno:.

Title: Re: Scoot Tag
Post by: jdbrot on October 08, 2010, 05:56:48 PM
Fair enough. The two really good rural road signs near me were recently stolen; a cattle crossing and a tractor crossing. I would not post these since my scooter was not in the photos. I was just tired of waiting for another post.

Jeeesh, I must have ridden by a dozen farm type signs today but didn't take any pictures of them.  I checked the link before I left and thought we were on Historic vessels.  Imagine me looking for a historic vessel in the Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts, chances are good I didn't find one :dunno:

Omigosh, I couldn't let this one go down in flames, so I looked at Google Maps for what seemed to be the closest one near my home - which is right in Dallas Tx - and found this one about 15 miles down the super-slab.  Checked the time and thought there should still be some reflected daylight by time I got there, and - wah lah, with a little photoshopping to add light, I give you:

Now, if I'd been thinking when I took this shot, I would have simply posted it again below as "bike near a bale of hay" - which should be really easy this time of year - but the bale really isn't that visible the way I took the pic.

So, here, for your tagging pleasure - bike on a hill with a house.

(This was in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, btw.)

Bike on a hill with a house (several views all the better to show hill - the left frame is THE house):

Can't see that as stretching anything at all.

We're kinda short of battle fields in north Texas, too.  :violin:  Unless you accepted a football field or wrestling ring, and we have a jousting place down in Waxahachie.  Now those are stretches  :)

Yup, no battle fields around here.  There were range conflicts of course, my great great great don't know how many times great grand father Samuel Washburn was killed and scalped up north of Whitewright in a blacksmith shop where he'd tried to hide from them on his way home west of Bells; lots of that stuff like that went on, but no battle fields.  The old battle fields around here are down south around Cuero, Goliad, San Antoino, and east into Louisiana.

Yup, to get to anything that actually had a sign that said battlefield on it we would have to ride 4 or 5 hours minimum.  And that would be superslab riding.  To get there on fun roads would take a bit longer.

Omigosh, that's absolutely precious!  I didn't know those places existed.

Neither did my cat.  She was sitting by me when I was looking at your tag.  She screamed and ran under the bed, and I haven't seen her since.

So, I googled, and found one nearby.

They don't open until noon on Sunday so I was able to park right where I needed to.

I guess the cat is safe, though, this seems to be a pretty dog-centric place.

So, the bar keeps being raised with tag quality.  I'm going to think about this for a bit before posting the next one, I don't want to regress.

I worried about that description, what I was thinking of isn't necessarily ethnic, it's just a funky place with wonderful stuff inside.  It's probably small, definitely tiny compared with a big box, it has narrow aisles with things stuck everywhere, it's probably in an old building similar to Jimmy's, and people working there may call you by name when you come in - or not.

Robin, if you can make it over the the old Dallas Naval Air Station there may still be a sign showing it's existance.

Post by: Robin on November 05, 2010, 02:26:24 AM
I thought of that first off, but it was Navy not Army - although it did start life as Army waaaay back.  Regardless, according to Wikipedia, it's recommissioned now, for Army, Air Force, and Marine reserves.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naval_Air_Station_Dallas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naval_Air_Station_Dallas)

The closest thing I can think of is old Fort Richardson out in Jacksboro, it's part of the state parks system now. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Richardson,_Texas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Richardson,_Texas)

Interesting.  I thought sure when they moved everyone to Carswell in Ft Worth, they would never reopen it.  Oh well.  btw, I would think any closed military installation would qualify.

I promise not to hihack the thread - but.

Back in the mid '80's when I was doing my instrument training, I shot a Precision Approach Radar approach to Carswell.  Of course, they didn't let me land, but when they told me to go around and I took the hood off I was less than 50 feet agl and dead on the centerline.  Fun!!! Turned out that they needed the PAR practice more than we general aviation pilots did, so if they didn't have a fire breathing fighter in the pattern they'd always do one for you if you asked.

I now return control of your thread to Scooter Tag.

Robin, are there none of those historic markers in your area? "On this site 1805 Fort Sam Crockett Bowie defended the frontier from yada-yada" Seems such would meet the criteria.

Training to fly in the clouds, you're flying with a vision limiting device so all you can see is the dash board of the airplane, to simulate flying in a solid cloud.  On the kind of approach I was talking about, you can see your flight instruments to tell up from down, what direction you're going, and how fast, but no radio to tell you where the airport is.  The air traffic controller watches you on a precision radar screen and talks you down to the ground by telling you to climb, descend, turn left, turn right.  And if both parties get it right, you break out of the "cloud" in a position where you can easily land the airplane.  When I took off my artificial cloud I could easily have landed.  I was able to log a PAR, and so was the ATC - win/win.

Robin, are there none of those historic markers in your area? "On this site 1805 Fort Sam Crockett Bowie defended the frontier from yada-yada" Seems such would meet the criteria.

I dunno, I took it as a closed Army facility.  Now, if I just knew where there was a previous store front recruiting shop  :dunno:

Adair Army base was a camp used only in WWll, 4 army divisions trained there.  All that is left now is a small community made form the remains of the company streets, a name, and the marker you see in the picture.  It was my intention that the tag something simular; I don't care Army, Navy, Air Force or Marine.  My thought was that there would be many sprinkled around the US.

WWll is not part of the criteria; there should be some relics from both world wars.  Any place troops were billeted and trained and is now no longer part of the Armed Forces system of property.  It would be helpful if it had some sort of a marker.  I can't immagne Camp Adair is the only one.

Robin, under the criteria Rubber Side Down just posted you could go to any of the local airports that were used as training bases in WWII.  Heck you could even go to Love Field.  I think their might be a marker at the Terrell airport, I know there is a museum there.  Didn't we see a marker at the airport in Sherman?

You just never know what's within a couple miles from home.  At White Rock Lake, a very popular recreation area for people in and around Dallas, there was an Army training camp, and then a POW camp, during WWII.

Found at N 32° 49.842 W 096° 42.892

And the remaining building.  There are a lot of weddings in it now.

And, yes, I did go through that nasty hole when I left.  Ouch.

The tag is any outdoor mural (or indoor if you can get your bike in).

This is at the driveway of a home not too far from where I live.  Last spring they brutally trimmed back the side facing you.  While it's mostly filled back out, it's still a bit scruffy compared with the other sides, but I didn't have a lot of angle options.

Parking was just terrible.  This is a relatively busy through street, but still only two lanes in a neighborhood, so I did the best I could.  Here are some other shots for your enjoyment.

It's all your fault, all the new camera talk. I'm trying to put it off until tomorrow because sometime tomorrow, UPS will be showing up with a shiny new 'Pentax K-r' DSLR along with 18-55mm & 55-300mm lenses and I want it to be my first picture. If 'Her Majesty' should discover I spent $800.00 of my 'well not really all that hard earned when compared to coal mining', money on something for myself, rather than baubles and as seen on TV items for her. It's all Robin's fault, she enticed, lured, bewitched me with her wily photography talk. She's well away of what a nice guy I am, just naive, gullible and easily swayed by worldly influences. No, better find a better cover story or I'll end up having to buy another computer, too. If I should ever happen to take a good picture, I will give you credit for influencing the decision, though. Besides, it's not even barely worked for money. It's pay for not working money, a portion of what I was paid for unused vacation time. I love America! There should be enough left to get her that 'Ron Proppel' pocket rotisserie chicken cooker she's been admiring on the TV and another motorbike, if I can figure out a way to disquise it as a pile of Christmas decorations, just for a few months til I can find someone to blame for my transgression.

Edited sintax

I think it has been long enough that Robster won the first round. Seems like the OP set seven days without a response as a winner.

Edited to add - I just happen to have a big red truck.

Yehey!! i won,i won!!....so that means my scooter gets to be displayed in the logo....i'm still waiting to see the pic of my scoot up there maggie!!..thanks

Robin, not sure how advanced you are but while you are waiting on the books, there are some good free sites on the web for beginning photographers. Start with camera functions.

Thanks,  Phil.  I also found this today:

I was looking for "ISO" (which  you talked about) because I knew that as International Standards Organization, not a photo term.

There is "free" alternative to Photoshop, its called "Gimp", it has similar functionalities as Photoshop, so you could download it and practice with that.

I bought PaintShop Pro XI a couple years ago because I already knew how to use the way way older version.  Didn't help, they've pretty  much made the user interface totally different.  And, it's not a very good product any more.  Example, if you shrink a photo, say from 4000x3000 down to 800x600, it just destroys the photo.  So, I do the editing using PaintShop, save it, and use Gimp to reduce the photo.

Methinks I should spring for PhotoShop Elements.  I can get the educator's version at a good discount.

It has been two weeks, did I win that round? Yea Phil! Mine was so lame and easy I would like to share this well deserved victory with Robbin, who actually had to move her scooter to get a picture. I thought surely someone would find a red hatchback. So, I'll keep it simple. Scooter with water, if you're snowed in bottled or a glass full will do.

Doh!!! Yes, snow or an ice cube will do but simply claiming high humidity requires documentation of 90% or greater.

Yes, it's a JCW large box. I treated the orange plastic trim with a couple coats of Krylon for plastic.

Wow, tougher than I expected!  I took a few laps around the block near my own City Hall and couldn`t find any place where it would have been possible to stop and get the bike and City Hall together in the same picture, so I headed to our sister city for a try there.  A little bit better- City Hall is (barely) visible and the bike and entrance sign are clear.  Best I could do.

Yes, there is a railroad track above. 1903 is the date on the top. Interesting thing about this one is that little stream you see on the right side of the pic runs through the tunnel in a concrete channel. When it rains hard, it floods the whole floor of the tunnel.

Right next door to Gold Mtn. NC. Just up the road is a mining camp where you can pan for gold and dig for gem stones. My grand kids had a great time trying their hand at being miners last year.

Ok I love scooter tag...

Wells Fargo was easy

And so is mine

If you look close in the background that strip of green is the Blackridge Golf Course and the little dots on it are golfers.

So the tag is a golf course (golfers optional)

Tag your it!

Sounds fair.  They're all inflatable.  If I could get the bike out there I would post with this one:

Senator P.Elican Esq. (P-Texas) delivers his stump speech in which he advocates for the rights of water people of his state, and across the country, saying "Be kind to your web footed friends, because one of them might be your best friend's mother's daughter' father's - um. Or, something like that." Elican was unclear when asked for clarification.

When questioned about claims of the rights of fish and other minority members of water people society being compromised, or even trampled, the senator declined to comment, but there have been verified reports that the senator is, in fact, a member of the fisher-party, a buffalo wing faction of the main-stream P-party. His bill (SB 1984, also known as the P.Elican Pouch bill), introduced recently, further substantiates those allegations. This reporter will be following up as the feathers fly.

Did you post-process those with a watercolor filter or something?  I like the effect, they look sort of like pastel murals, especially the skyline one.

City skyline

Did you post-process those with a watercolor filter or something?  I like the effect, they look sort of like pastel murals, especially the skyline one.

I took them as HDR images. The default settings on the HDR camera app for android gives that effect. If I'm taking the individual exposure bracketed frames with my DSLR I  tend to tweak the resulting HDR a little flatter when i process them on my computer, but I was just out riding for fun enjoying the evening so I wasn't wearing my belt rig with the serious gear :) the capabilities of the phone app had to be enough. The low sun with the exceptionally warm light quality worked rather well in my favor making these settings look good.

Edited to add: the River shot is from a pull out on the Warner Rd/Shephard Rd riverside stretch by downtown St Paul, and the skyline shot is the same city from the vantage point of the MN history centers loading dock.

Not to steal or hijack the scooter tag thread ... but to keep it going and since sirkitrider hasn't added his tag ... I hope I might pick it up without stepping on any toes.

So here is a mural picture depicting local history on Bedford Basin.  Chiefly it depicts the assembly of convoys in Bedford Bassin during WW II.  They were a means of shipping goods to the UK despite the German U Boat attacks.

(http://s3.postimg.org/bl90prvj3/June_1_8.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/bl90prvj3/)

And as a tag, I pretty well have to use Peggy's Cove Lighthouse.  I will add a series of today's travels in the "What I Found ..." thread.  This was really my first ride on the S'Wing and clocked about 155 kms this morning.  Perfect weather here for riding today ..... finally !

Well I didn't think I could come up with a lighthouse in middle America but thanks to Google I found one about 20 miles from home on the bank of the Mighty Mississippi River.

These were taken from the roadway around the Halifax Citadel just after noontime.

I like the old barn as a tag; and I know the perfect one on the way to Ski Martock about an hour by bike away. We are always amazed it is still standing. So I offer this one which doesn't quite fulfill the "old" requirement. It is a barn of Bluewater Stables which is about 10 minutes from home.
(http://s17.postimg.org/65lc75gcr/June_25_Bluewater_Stables.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/65lc75gcr/)

And if deemed acceptable (as in old enough) I suggest the tag of a beach.  People from South Carolina found the water here too cold. Must have been 65 or 70°F that day they were there. :dunno:

On Sunday I took a ride to Ski Martock.  This took me past the site of the "old" barn I had mentioned in a previous post.  However I was too late as it had been torn down, or fell down, or maybe was blown down by Arthur the week before. :dunno:  However below is a barn of some age which is located across RR # 14 from Ski Martock Road.

I know...I know!  But it is only July!  It's tough to even buy a non-rainy Wednesday or Thursday the way this weather pattern has set up.  Don't worry your phone will ring...soon!

Mike that is Wachusett Mountain Ski Area (http://www.wachusett.com) I skied there (seasonally) nearly every day for the better part of my youth.  When I started skiing there the longest run was 1200' serviced by a T-bar.  They are way to big for their britches now.  It is comical to ride by there in the winter and watch the folks pay $63 dollars to stand in line at the overcrowded lifts!

By the way Mt Wachusett State Reservation is a Mass Parks property (http://www.mass.gov/eea/agencies/dcr/massparks/region-central/wachusett-mountain-state-reservation.html), I may bid to transfer there next summer season.

Thanks for the reply Paul.

It looks like a really nice hill.  Agree, it is a bit pricey for a day's entertainment but some people go once a year and say they are accomplished skiers. So they don't think it is that expensive.

Their seniors' season rate isn't too bad but you would have to use it to make it pay for itself.   The adult rate for where I ski, Martock, is only $120+ taxes if purchased before the end of June. After about four days into the season it has paid for itself.  Mind you, this can't really be compared to your hill since Martock has only 600 ft of vertical and it is a short trip down to go back up .... and there are really only 4 trails from the top.  But, still, we enjoy it there.  And with all the east coast ice to ski on, we feel trained to ski anywhere.   There was a girl in North Peak Lodge at Sunday River heard to say ... she didn't realize snow was supposed to make any noise.  It came to be known that she was from Colorado. :violin: :hs1:

Think snow !

End of off track comments ....

Really nice diner complete with juke box Maggie !  I love the clock on their home page .... it even runs true to ADT !   :2tu:

I was out rounding up my produce market pictures only to find the Silver Bullet was faster than the titanium grey Silver Wing  :hs1:

A tough tag for sure .......
So with time spent searching the location of driveway headers with an animal theme I ended up coming up with these ... subject to the judges' discretion as to suitability.  Time was getting along so they were found as darkness set in for the night.... :violin:

(http://s25.postimg.org/acl8r6lzv/July_23_8.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/acl8r6lzv/)

(http://s25.postimg.org/r1mon3il7/July_23_9.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/r1mon3il7/)

So if these two frogs are valid enough .... the next tag suggested is a historical and unique building like this :

(http://s25.postimg.org/9cuxvh6u3/July_20_10_Copy.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/9cuxvh6u3/)

(http://s25.postimg.org/42pz46ml7/July_20_11.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/42pz46ml7/)

Today I rode to Queensland Beach, about 40kms from home, (for a swim in the frigid Atlantic Ocean) and passed these lions on guard.  So, now let's move onto a historical or unique building.

OK ...riding season has returned to even the Canadian East Coast ... so ... let's activate scooter tag from where Cathy left off with a '50s diner.

Here is my entry for a diner, The Chickenburger in Bedford N.S. whose logo is an ugly big rooster.  Oh what fun were the discussions when the town council wanted to widen the street and move that fond landmark .....  LOL.

And for the tag picture .... how about an industrial class windmill.  I had hoped to get closer than this gate.... but if they didn't want nosey visitors, well ... I can live with the sight of the twirling blades.

And the dirt road to this point was bad enough anyway.

It's on Elm St. in St Charles close to Sugarfire.

In reply to Dave's railway crossing .... a railway crossing which the neighbors insisted was closed.  But leaving access for fire trucks etc, it is closed by pipes with a padlock for "easy" removal --- as long as they don't forget the key in the fire station. :head: In the background is the local Catholic Church.  There are often sermons interrupted by the horn of passing trains.  This is the main CNR line into Halifax, N.S.

As a tag ... how about a golf course.

Well, now I've decided to ask.......

Ok, the picture I took to get the grab:

Spring has finally arrived in NS ..... (in NB it was flood season and they have had a rough time).  But a couple of pictures showing the  "local ski hill" last Sunday ... the first ride of any distance this season  (only 125kms) and some spring color today.

Take a look at the NS webcam to see the amount of melt in a week in comparison to these pictures.

I was thinking your machine is also one of the classics ( I too am not prejudiced in any way) and I was trying to come up with a mascot for the tail of the bike as well.  But I think you have that so well nailed. but I'll keep thinking.  LOL.   I should have looked at the tag before I headed out today.  But maybe tomorrow the heavy equipment will be found.  This scooter tag can be a lot of fun.

Hi Don,

Better to hear the "rules" from Maggie; but as I understand it ..... someone puts up a picture of their machine in a particular setting or background and "challenges" the next person to put their machine in a similar setting as the tag, posting the picture, of course.  That person adds and another picture of their machine in a different setting which becomes the setting or challenge for the next person to match.

Clear as mud ?

So, if, now I post a picture of my scoot in front of a piece of heavy equipment I can then, say, post a picture of it in front of the Acropolis and the next guy would need to find an ancient Greek temple?

Title: Re: Scoot Tag
Post by: Clampett on May 14, 2018, 04:28:27 PM
I've been on several forums playing tag games and the main purpose is to encourage a ride. For an example, we had a Canadian that posted a photo in front of a hockey stadium, but none of our southern players could get the tag, so one of the riders gets a hockey jersey and stick, poses it with his dog by his scooter and claims the tag since it was hockey related. The game kept moving. No one complained.

The purpose is to ride, share the photos, and ride some more. Laugh at someone's creativity at claiming the tag.......
If you don't have heavy equipment to tag with around you, get a toy toy truck for example and place it on your seat, take the photo, claim the tag, and post that Greek temple.

Ok, lets see if I got this right.

'Bama posted a shot of some heavy equipment so I post a shot of the Scoot and The Dragon.

Then Taz and The Ten post a shot of a cityscape. (You'll want to note the color coordinated presentation.)

Taz came into the family many years ago while Barb and I found ourselves, quite by surprise, in Mobile for the 1st night of Mardi Gras!

That's no temple, that's St. George an orthodox church atop Mount Lycabettus, the highest point in the city. The Acropolis is farther to the left.

That's what I'm using and AFIK that's about it unless you've got your own web source. Anyhow... Once you've got your photo(s) loaded on to postimage
1) hit the [Preview] button
2) click on the image to see it in postimage
3) (R) click on the full size image and select "copy image address"
  ...or...
3) click on [Share] then click on the icon to the far right of "Direct Link"
4) back to your post - click on the Insert Image icon (http://maxi-scoots.com/scoot/Themes/default/images/bbc/img.gif)
5) paste the line you copied at postimage between the img /img
6) hit preview again to make sure you've got it right then delete the line that posted the thumbnail

Mike, post Image is something I added to the forum to help with people that didn't know how to upload pictures. It is very limited.

The best way is to hotlink a photo in from Flickr, photobucket, etc...

I think I have opened this servers/forum software uploader.  If you look under additional options at the bottom of a Post Reply Box, you should be able to upload a picture there.  Let me try it out later with my non admin account and I will see if activated.

Thanks Maggie and Don.

Going to try Don's instructions as a test using a "cityscape" from last summer when Ike was in Halifax. Then look into flickr.  Photobucket has been giving me some grief lately.

In this shot from Citadel Hill in Halifax, the Ike is seen at anchor in the harbor. In the foreground you can see the radar dome of a cruise ship in town that day; and some of the church steeples as well.

Don't give up yet. I'm trying to figure out how to get the scoot next to an ancient ruin. It's hard enough getting people close enough for a good photo.

Nope!  They even check your car when you pull into the buildings garage.  And then everyone’s ID before you proceed into the building.

Not the greatest picture it was a foggy day.  But it was a city scape and it worked.  :2tu:

I'll see your Shell station & raise you an attendant. This is one of the guys at my regular station so they're well use to craziness.

Then, while taking the pictures, some damned foreigner jumps on my scoot and acts like he owns it. I got really freaked out when I realized that the keys were hanging in the ignition!

So, here's your next stop:
An Orthodox church - extra points for being the one you were married in - and 10 bonus points if you can train a pigeon to pose in the shot.

Proof of wedding at said church. (sorry for the B&W... color film hadn't been invented yet.)

Dag nab it...rassle frazzle....as I was posting the above tag, air is quickly seeping out of the rear tire.
Tried my Plug N Go....hole was too big, got home and used the old worm plug till I can get it permanent.
7100 miles on these tires, so not too bad. I can limp in to the shop later for repairs!!!!

That's the scooter god gettin' after you for trying to make your machine into one of those dreaded off road thingies.

New tag: construction or heavy equipment.
If you don't have it, try a tractor
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180617/b88a07476d751867baa1f5f97a4b1c1e.jpg)
Come on now. Let's move it. The purpose of this type thread is to ride, not stumping others. If you really can't get this tag as is, be creative.. For example a toy of equipment on your scooter seat, but hopefully not in your driveway/garage. Last ditch effort if you really have none of these choices is with your lawn mower. Be creative, but not impossible on new tag.

Lol!  Sure, sounds good to me. How about a flag flapping in the breeze?  A kite in a park?  Actually, those windmills were just yard decorations out in front of the feed store, so we could open it up any yard decoration if you want to.

Ok, here we go.
I've got your hamburger joint in the guise of a souvlaki joint which is the Greek equivelant of a burger. But, before anyone cries "foul" they also identify as a "burger bar".

Ok so I grabbed the tag with this shot. (Is that a BMW scoot there too?)

And I'll challenge with a shot of the monument and tomb of the Marathon Warriors. If that name has a familiar ring, it should, as it is @26 miles from the Acropolis in Athens. Now, before anyone starts to think I run one of those races let it be known that, Pheidippides, the 1st guy to do so delivered his message, "Joy to you, we've won", and dropped dead.

So, any war memorial that honors fallen heroes that gave their all to protect their families and their way of life.

Ok, here's the airport. It's the Eleftherios Venizelos International here in Athens, Greece.

And here's your next challenge.

You can either find an ancient oracle like the one here in Delphi.

Here's a detail of the ancient rocks. The Ministry of Antiquities is totally unreasonable about allowing us to drive up to them.
(It's just in front of the windshield)

.... OR ....

Ride to a new destination!

Obviously this is wide open so the new McD's down the street COULD qualify but....

It took me some time to track down a firetruck & I had to chase this one but I got it!
We don't have "fire houses" similar to the US. The trucks have a "garage" but are dispersed & park in locals. This truck is on the edge of the forest up the mountain we live on.

Now.. either become a human target....

.... or ....

Find a breadshop/bakery. This is a photo of one of the "Artopoleons" in our neighborhood. (Artos is ancient Greek for bread)

Partaking of wares is a given!

Thanks!  Not related to the thread, but I just took this pic of it next to a classic car just because I thought they looked good together:

There's almost room for the scoot in the trunk of that roadboat.

When folks start sticking to "the thread" it's going to get boring around here.

Agreed!  Come to think of it, that pic would have made a good next tag.  How about a pic of your bike next to another vehicle the same color?

The only chance I'd have of pulling that one of is to find another Piaggio.

How about the same color family?  Not necessarily a perfect match, but the same general color?

Well, I tried you idea about the same color family but just as I hit the shutter the VW zoomed back almost out of the shot! I've no idea what was going on here but the X10 is a designer color "Bianca Pearl" and the VW is a mundane "White".

I guess it could have been shame for being so mundane or, maybe, she thinks the X10 is just too high class for the likes of her but, whatever the cause, it seems she just REFUSES to be photoed with the scoot.

This is as close as I got them together in the same shot.

Who knew VW's were camera shy?  Lol.  Looks good enough for me.  I can see the bumper.

I thought the tag was a sporting goods store.
But, if you want, take it away I'm stuck indoors due to weather for the next few daze.
